: Which coilovers?

Through some shopping around, I've basically been able to find any of the big name coilovers in a similar price range, give or take $20-30..

Asking around, mostly it was "I got a good deal on them" as for what brand of CO they run, so that's not much help.

Here's what I've been finding..

1: Walker's with remote res & compression adjuster, with hardware, but 5/8" shaft
2: SAW's, emulsion, 7/8 shaft, with hardware
3: King pre-runners, emulsion, 7/8" shaft, with hardware, any valving
4: Rock equipment's threaded body air shock, with hardware
5: Fox emulsion with hardware, 7/8" shaft
6: RadFlo emulsion with hardware, 7/8" shaft

My California ex-desert buddy says "King or no-thing", but part of me is leaning towards the Walker's for the ease of adjustability on the adjustments, though they didn't seem like they wanted to offer any choices in rebound valving.

I've seen a few bent CO shafts, but always after a link broke or something similar... does the diameter really matter that much?

I am trying to avoid all the vendor ass-kissing in the general section..

Personally I would do Fox, SAW or King. Just because they have been around for sometime and I expect to own my shocks for awhile. I want parts and service when the time comes.

I love my Fox's. I have zero complaints about them and I have re valved them probably 6x each.

From what I understand the Walkers adjuster is just a joke. Fox does the same thing. It doesn't really adjust the valving it just chokes the volume of fluid that can pass.

Eskimo,

I recently went through this same process. I had narrowed it down to King or Fox. I wanted to go with the King's but I was told that the Fox shocks might be a little nicer than the Pre-Runner shocks. I have no doubt that King's Race shocks are the best, but they are also much more expensive.

I have not seen any really compelling reason to go with any specific coilover...

I do like my 16" Emulsion Saws tho..

Polyperformance also sells King. I wish you would have posted this a week ago. I just sent some brand new 14" 2.5" Fox coilovers back to Polyperformance, because I need 12" coilovers, and I might have to eat a $300 restocking fee.

Polyperformance also sells King.

I spoke briefly with Dave, who recommended that I go with Fox over the Kings... he feels the construction is a little nicer, and parts availability is better.
But, I'd be going with 2.0's...

Oddly enough, he also said that because of my low uptravel (3.5-4") that I may have to remove the secondary stop ring.. When I said "So that means it'll never go into the primary rate until the secondary goes into bind?" Dave said I wouldn't want it to do that at all.

Here I was thinking I'd want it to transition within an inch of ride height. (Using the coilover calc, I had it setup to transition around 3/4" compressed from ride height.. 10" over 14" with a tender)

I'll re-address that once I get to that point and see exactly what ride height / uptravel is looking like for sure...
