My friend has a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that he would like to upgrade for wheeling. It has V8, fulltime 4wd, 2 inch lift, 265/70/r16 dueler ats. Its still gonna be a mostly dd vehicle, but he would like to make it more capable offroad. I have a few questions.
Do they make a kit to convert his jeep to part time 4wd
a small body lift for slightly bigger tires?
what tires reccomended, mostly mud and trails around here, maybe Tellico Uwharrie eventullay
rear locker? I was thinking Aussie, but felt yall would know better
Im a Chevy person, and have a 89 K5 that I just put a lockright in.
thanks

You can't do a body lift 'cause it's a unibody vehicle. Most all the aftermarket companies make a nice suspension lift for those, (skyjacker, and others), That's your only route other than a sawzall and an understanding buddy. As far a locker, those will be alot noisier than say maybe an ARB or other selectable locker, I would definetly pop for one if I was him... just my .02 though.......

go on the forum at southernjeeps.org. Post up this question, there are 3-4 other guys with nearly the same rig and one now doing a transfer case swap.

The body liift is out as it is a Uni body vehicle. Does your friend have the full time 4wd, or the Quadra Drive System with vari lock axles in his WJ? Big difference, often confused. Also, what rear diff is in this WJ, some have a Dana 44. However, it is not the same D44 that you will find in a TJ, the WJ D44's I am thinking about are weak as it is made from aluminum. Also the 16 inch tires will limit his choices in tire size, or require new wheels.
**EDIT**
Have your friend request a "Build Sheet" on his Jeep. It's free. Just provide contact information and the VIN for the Jeep. In the comment box, request a "Build Sheet". In a few days, he will be e-mailed detailed information about how this Jeep was equipped when it rolled off the assembly line.
