Welding Classes?

I was wondering if anybody knew of any good welding schools around the Walnut Creek/ Concord area. I am going to school in San Luis Obispo at Cal Poly but I am interested in taking some classes this summer when I come back up to the bay. Which ones are the best or the best bang for the buck? how is that crucible welding class? Do you know anything about it, or just have the link?

A previous roommate of mine took a class at the crucible, casting I think. He really enjoyed it and was very impressed. Look into community colleges too. I took two semesters of welding at College of Marin, they have a pretty big welding room and cover it all from brasing to TIG.

Last January I took the Mig welding class. It was a good class...pretty intensified. I knew a little about welding before hand so it was a little to basic for me. I did learn that a good welder makes a TON of differenece...LOL.
As well as having all the right tools to use. They need a welding class for the Tool poor guy...show you how to weld on uneven surfaces...how to cut stuff WITHOUT a plasma cutter....how to use a ratcheting strap as a viable clamp...LOL....but seriously if you are looking for and intense class it is good otherwise I would look into Contra Costa College welding class...its cheaper and probably much more instructional. The crucible just seemed a bit basic and more artsy fartsy...I built a tailgate for my motorcycle trailer which was cool..but by the time I really got down to it I was almost out of class time.

Ive been trying to find a decent class that works with my schedule. unfortunately i can not sign up for a semester worth of classes, i need an intensified class. however, Ive been welding for a year or so, and would just like to be shown the "right" way to do things.

Crucible is your best bet around the East Bay.

Most of the JC classes are weird hours & a pain to get to (in my opinion).

Never went to the crucible, one of the guys I work with did and thats how he met another guy that used to work where I do and told him to come see if they would hire him. IIRC he didnt think it was all that great.
During high school and after high school I took welding classes at Solano CC in Fairfield.
They have morning classes from 8am till 1pm or night classes from 5:30 to 7:30 and from 7:30-10pm
I reccommend the morning class with Dave Neurot(sp?) if hes still teaching. I never looked at DVC.

Well crucible would be the place you are looking for....they can give you good technique. If you are just looking to fine tune it should help..a bit pricey though. Expect to pay just under 400 bucks for the class.

Los Medanos College in Pittsburg has some welding classes and supposedly better than DVC's. I haven't taken them yet, plan to this spring though.

I took a class at Las Positas in Livermore. It was good and well worth the money. They have several Syncrowave 300's along with some other TIG machines.
