: B&M auto shifters......Megashifter vs. Pro-Stick

Looking at a couple of auto shifters for a TH350. I am familiar with
the Megashifter operation. Can anyone compare it to the operation
of the Pro-Stick?

Am trying to decide what kind of auto shifter to run. Anyone just
adapt a factory console shifter with good results. I have one I pulled
outta a Cavalier or somthing. Looks like it wouldn't be to
difficult to adapt it.

Thoughts?

I have ran both the pro stick and the mega and I would say skip
both of them and run the quicksilver! This shifter does have the
t bar in front that you have to lift up. This shifter goes extremly
smooth from drive to park. If I had to pick second, it would be the
Megashifter. The pro stick has a reverse lock out that is a pain in
the ass to work.

I run a turbo action shifter and love it.

Im thinking of using a mega shifter in a upcomming swap and was wondering how hard is it to go from D to R? or from 1 to R? and back the other way thanks.

With the megashifter, you cant go directly from 1 to Reverse. This is the only thing I dont like about it. Its a racheting shifter and you have to be in Drive to be able to shift to Park or Reverse. Ofcourse, you could instal a reverse manual valve body and have a backwards shift pattern. P R N 1 2 3. Thats what I want to do, but havent got around to it yet.

i ran the mega in my 83 toy with the V8.loved it,really like the positive lock feature so that an accidental reverse wasn't possible. my .02:D

I have grafted in almost the entire console and shifter from the 98 bravada into my 82 toy. Works sweet, and looks good too.

Thanks benny, i was thinking about a reverse valve body and i guess if i have a mega shifter that would be my best bet.

I had a mega shifter Junk I took it out and put in a LOKAR shifter. Worked out great in my toyota with a 4L60E. Its not a cable it uses a rod and rod ends with no t-handle.

I had several B & M products and for racing their great but Lokar is very close to OEM and is very easy to install and smoothe....

I use an 88 cavalier shifter i modified with a dremel to lock into 1st and 2nd gear so the button must be pressed to pop it out of gear, its cable operated and with the console and everything it was under 20$ @ the pick-n-pull...Forget that $180 bs for a shifter...

I think it was your post a while back that gave me the idea to pick
up the junkyard shifter I have. How do you like the way yours works?

For 4 wheeling I'd say go Lokar also. The B&M ratchets are nice for shifting gear to gear--the non ratchet ones are a bit vague--I think the cables cause this. For R-D-R-D shifts the direct linkage Lokar is the best in my opinion.

ok so if i was going to use a regular valve body a OEM shifter from a caviler or something would work well but if i have a manual reverse valve body a Mega Shifter will do fine???

Somebody answer TR's question, because I wanna know too. Going automatic and I want a shifter setup that'll let me be just like Durham... front wheels launch, quick flick to reverse. With a reverse manual VB.

Somebady give us the info on the rev. man. valve body please. I hear alot of race car drivers running it but what dose it do just reverse the position the shifter would be in stock. I think I am gona go with the Locar shifter since I know the fab shop forman and CNC guy but that is just because I can get tit cheep and dont have to look for one that I can put on my tranny. Thanks for helping a brother out with the info to who ever posts it.

since you don't need the 4th gear of the Megashifter....get the star shifter...much better IMO...I hate my mega compared to my old star, but it was my only choice at te time for a 4 speed and I needed to get something they had in stock for a run the next weekend....

Ditto. I've broken the pin that drops into the slot on the Megashifter more than once. Had to stick a bolt in it and had rachet only until I could get a new one.

not sure if this is what you are looking for, but with a REV. MAN setup, your shifter will go like this....

P-R-N-1-2-3-4-(if ya got it)
with a ratcher shifter....just click forward or back for gears

make sure to specify that you want good compression braking, cause often thats not taken into account for drag guys

i just ordered a rev man 4l80, using that new BM hammer shifter on it, ill report how it works

I've personally run the Megashifter, the Pro-stick and the Quicksilver. I by far prefer the Quicksilver. Nice SOLID unit. Unlike what someone above stated, there's no trigger to pull or buttons to push for nuetral lockout. You simply pull up on the shifter while going from forward gears to nuetral, reverse or park. I think the engagment "feel" was much more positve when racheting. Also, I believe it was the easiest to select gears without looking. My $.02.

I just got rid of my Quicksilver. What a PITA  Unless you are in third gear, you can't get back into Reverse. You have to ratchet up into third and then pull up into reverse. Maybe mine was broken but it sucked. Have you considered the Street Bandit? Its going into mine and I've heard good stuff about it.

For the price and speed for rockcrawling competition, I'l take the Winter's Bros shifter and cut the gates out of the guide plate. SUPERFAST from 1st to reverse!
For sand and mud, I'd take a reverse valve body with a ratchet so you're sure to hit the gear you want.

So Dustin, what's the difference between Carr and Winters? Externally the look about the same. I've seen both in desert racing trucks. I've seen Carr in crawlers but never a Winters that I know of. Just currious?

I *think* the one that came in my 83 is the Quicksilver - it sure looks like it, with the knob you pull up on to move...

and I HATE the reverse lockout - I have to pull up and put it into park, then back down to reverse.

BTW - my pattern is P - R - N - ?

I have no clue, I just "tap" it down from N to make it go ;)

BTW - the "tap down" feature is kinda fun :p

The Winters is simply a re-branded CARR at a better price. Including the shift cable, I got mine for $195.00.
