I'm about 2 days from driving my jeep since i started its build up and now i need to address tire coverage.
I have about 11 inches of tire sticking out the side of the jeep that i need to cover some how. i was planning on makeing some flares out of sheetmetal but i heard that i might be able to use some mud flaps that cover the tires instead of whole flairs. Anyone in VA know if thats legal anyone know who i can call to find out.
any ideas are very welcome.
thanks

The local DMV/ DOT offices should be able to give you any info needed on tire coverage. Also check w/ your local 4x shops.. they'll most likely know too...

I know in CA the "official" line is that the upper 50% of the tire must be completely covered as far out as the tire extends. But in practice, mud flaps will usually keep the ocifers off your back (within reason).

if i recall in VA they're pretty tight on the flare issue. I know up here in PA the entire tire has to be covered by a flare and the flares aren't supposed to be any more than 3" wide. some of the cops are a REAL pain in the arse about it too.
