Hi Guys,
Mike in New Brunswick, Canada here. I am a Mini nut and a general British car enthusiast.

OK, so I have myself ½ talked into selling my daily driver (a 2002 Sunfire) and buying a 1990 or 1991 Land Rover Defender 90 or 110 in the UK and importing it into Canada.

My questions in no particular order are:

Parts prices and availability? (brakes, suspension, exhaust, etc.)

Top speed for each of the engines. 2.5na, 2.5td and 200tdi

Top TOWING speed. (towing a mini or a laden utility trailer)

Prices in the UK of a decent but not show quality truck? (have done a bit of research already, but still working on this one)

Wheel bolt pattern/size? (to see if I can source extra wheels here ahead of time)

REcommended Land Rover sellers in the UK? (have already been in contact with barnhillminis, but none currently in stock)

Anyone heard of yanthelandyman from eBay?

Anyone in the UK willing to inspect one for me? Alex/Suzy?

These question are for the UK spec'd diesels (not NAS, and not gas)

My reasoning is a bit complicated (like all my schemes) but goes thusly:

I like diesels. I would like to try a greasecar.com conversion to run 50% diesel, 50% grease. VW diesels are EXPENSIVE here. You have NO idea. Example. A 2002 Golf diesel with 172,000kms on it is $12,800. The prices don't get any better for CDN spec trucks. Plus a BIG truck won't fit in my garage for servicing, etc.

I like the look of the Series III Land Rovers but they are just getting too old to be a daily driver. I miss my Pathfinder, but what a pile of bleeping rust, and the auto tranny was $3500 to fix if it went. (it was on it's way out in the end)

I like small trucks/4x4's/pickups in general and can actually put it to use, especially in the snow........which we get lots of.

(as usual) I digress !

Help!

...and thanks :-)
Mike

I apologize humbly ben, but I was directed towards this forum and told there was a "Land Rover" section, to which I posted.

Cheers,

roverlanders.bc.ca is a good canadian site.

also to import from the UK to Canada it must be 15years old thought there is a move afoot to change this to match the US and make it 25years so if you want one get it while you can.

Thanks W110, I shall have a quick look-see.
I imported a RHD Austin Mini nearly 2 years ago and love the
British feel of the car. My next step was to get a 4x4 and a diesel.
Naturally, I chose the Defender 90 or 110.
Cheers,
Mike in NB:)

This site is *supposed* to be focused on rock crawling, extreme offroading, and off-road oriented fabrication rather than general model information. To be fair, the last couple years it has become more chit-chat tolerant, which I like.

Anyway, Mike (and Dave), head over here:

http://www.maritimerovers.org/smf/index.php

and here:

http://www.landroveraddict.com/smf/index.php?board=3.0

Both are populated with a lot of people whose footsteps you are following!! See you there.

Hey Mike - fancy seeing you around here ! Just like CQ'ing on 50.125, 'eh ?

Don't let these guys rattle you - it seems to be OK for THEM to talk about stuff like that :)

Do some searching and then ask your questions in small pieces that would be below their detection level...

Cheers
