hi, i recently submerged my 1993 warngler 4.0 in about 4 feet of water. it stalled intantly but i still had a good amount of water in the engine as well as the gas tank. after i pulled the plugs and got the water out, it ran for a few minutes then began to miss badly and eventually died. it has not started since, ive replaced the distributor, cap/rotor, wires and plugs. i drained most of the tank except maybe a gallon, i had about 4 gallons of water in the tank. i put 5 gallons of gas in there but it still will not start. it sounds like it is almost going to start, but it never does. one thing i have noticed is there is smoke or exhaust coming out of the intake. i dried all the spark plugs, and there should be maybe a very small amount of water still in the gas but it should be a lot more dilluted since i drained it and added more gas. i really dont know where else to go from here, i was hoping someone on here could help in getting this thing started. i reall am stuck in a hard spot here and want to get the jeep out one more time before i go back to school...thanks

I would drain the tank completely

I did the same thing to a 95 YJ up to the windsheild :D

I completely drained the tank, front and rear axles, tranny, motor, and tcase. I thought my computer was trashed but after doing all of that the Jeep ran fine and I put another 20k miles on the jeep before selling it.

Sounds like you have bad gas. If youre getting spark and fuel and it's still not starting then, it has to be the fuel.

Try using some "Heet" in the gas. It is an additive that you can get at most auto parts stores and it will dry up the water in the fuel. I believe it is mostly alcohol.

pull the plugs and turn the engine over, it will shoot any of the water in it out, then put everything back in an try to start, also drain the entire tank like everone stated

That sounds like what my Jeep did when my computer went out.

Is the fuel pump kicking on? If the computer's fried, the fuel pump won't work. You could possibly have also shorted something out when the motor started if a connection was still wet. If the coil fried, that could cause it too. Check for fuel and spark, if you have both of those, then check the condition of the gas in the tank.

Drain the tank completely. Remember, fuel floats on water, so you probably drained out 4 gallons of gas and left a gallon of water. :D

If the check engine light comes with the key on and stays on then cycle the key off and on five times and stop on on then count the flashes for the pcm code if you dont get a flash either it didn't throw a code(unlikely given the sircumstances) or the pcm is bad
