DO NOT buy from Kragen. Their motors are CRAP./ They get paid on the amount of motors they output. I have had a chance to play with a few of them, and they were alll FUCKED up beyond imagine. If I were you, got o Rising sun Motors.

DON' T DO IT!!!! I went through two of them. Second motor they wouldn't warrenty. Never buy engines form kragens or Pep Boys, you will get screwed!!!
The only reason I initally bought a motor from them was a time factor. The truck was my DD and I didn't have the luxury of rebuilding the engine myself. Both engines after minimal mileage developed rod knocks, oil pump screen was packed with metal shavings. They were obviously the result of machining, and poor cleaning....
Making a long story short, I spent $1,000 on a boat anchor, never again!!!!I ended up rebuilding the bottom end, sold the truck. The guy that bought it form me said the head went south after about 3,000 miles. I'm still Pissed about that!!!!!:mad3: Fawk kragens and pep boys!!!!:skull:

I ran a 2 bolt 350 from them back in the early 90's in an 81 Blazer. Changed the cam as soon as I got it home. Raced in the Cal 4 Wheel mud drags at Prarie City and used it as a daily driver. Hell I even won a trophy in the BB modified class. Not one problem to speak of. Good Luck.

I put one of those junk motors in my Blazer and had lots of problems from the get go. Blew a head gasket like 2 weeks later, and they got me a new head and gaskets (it was cracked) Then I had more problems with it so I sold it and the new owners said it blew a head gasket on them and then the engine caught on fire! The second gasket was the opposite side head to. I will never ever go through that crap again. By the way, I hear that most all of those remanufactured engines come from the same type of places, so beware of not just Kragen and Pep Boys.

I picked up a "rebuilt" but tired 350 4-bolt (free) from guy. The motor had the stamps all over from one of the rebuilders (looked like the ones at checkers). When I pulled the heads, I found out that the #1 and #2 cyl were .030 over, but the rest were std. (oversized rings).

You won't catch me buying one from the rebuild factories. Too many cut corners!

Yep, I worked at a machine shop for a while and was told by the head guy that he had seen a few with different sized cylinders.

bought a 22r from pep boys about 4-5 years ago and have not had 1 problem. they even through in a free waterpump, oil, filter, antifreeze, etc.. because I told them Autozone/Trak Auto was going to do the same :roxy:

It was rebuilt by some company in LA somewhere. They even took in my core that had a :nuke: hole in the block.

Bad Idea, Buddy's son bought one, blew it up and it took a year and half to warrenty then they only gave him one half the money back.:rasta:

we bought one for our 93 dodge spirit 4 cyl about month ago. installed it in a day, within 30 miles it tossed a valve seat and ruined the head. they sent a replacement head for us no cost to install and so far it's running alright....so far.

Try finding a place that sells atorka motors. These are japanese throwaways (at 30k) These motors are like new, and are a great buy. They have strict laws regarding cars, they have to get a new motor every 30K!

I had asked a friend (who worked at Checker, same company) about their rebuilt engines. He advised against it. Something about a 70% defective return rate. He convinced me.

As with any parts store, the parts are only as good as the suppliers. I quit Kargens about 3 monbths ago, and there was only 2 of the suppliers that I would recommend. They (Kragen) buy from outside manufactures.

Perhaps the price is way out of the question but what about LC Engineering or DOA?

I think this is pretty standard.

All I can say is "got sand"
I've seen sand in the pan from sand blasting that never got removed. Isn't that a cardinal rule for engines, no sand??!
Hot tank- no blasting.

Fried my 22r last summer...clogged radiator+road trip on a hot day. Got a short block from Kragen, and got a rebuilt head from a local shop. Topped it off with a TRD stage 1 camshaft, new rocker arms and Downey rocker arm shafts. Working well so far. I know Kragen got the short block from a company called Evergreen. Fingers are crossed...this has to last until I can afford a Chevy 4.3!:D ;)

I'm telling ya, you need to look into buying one of them imported japanese motors. You can't go wrong!! A used motor with less than 30K on it?? They are barely broken in!!! Call around, there should be tons of places in the bay area that sell them.
