i have a torque converter out of a 360 that was used behind a tf 727. i am putting the 727 behind a 401. the torque converter i have will not fit into the crank of the 401.

question 1: is the 360 crank that much different or what could cause this?

question 2:i had to order a flexplate for a amc javelin with a 401. i run a 401 out of a waggoner. is the crank a different size or is it the same as a waggoner? the one for the waggoner only had 3 bolt holes for the torque converter and the converter that i have has 4 holes.

if the 401 you are using is from an engine that had a cast iron adapter it has a bushing in the crank that needs to be removed
i believe it was only 2 years 72, 73 i could be wrong on the years

the torque converter (727) dodge/mopar has the 4 bolts same as 909's and 904's, the 401 had a th400 behind it
nothing that can not be overcome

i would go to a local tranny shop, and try to mix in match, or one of them might know what you need, if you do not have any luck pm me and i will look into it more

All of the 401's that had a turbo 400 behind them have that bushing that must be removed from the crank first. Without removing it the torque convertor won't bolt up to the flexplate you bought. Once you get it out it should all bolt up. Had to do the same thing on my '76 Waggie 401 to get the 727 to work.
