well i have a 91 ford explorer lifted about 6 inches with 33x12.5 BFG/AT KO tires on it. i was down in the dunes at little sahara in central utah and i managed to blow out the axle seals. there was gear oil flipping all over my passenger side tire and on my zuk that i was towing at the time. is this a tough repair. i do everything besides set up gears and rebuild engines. i do trannies and t-cases but i have never had to rip into my exploder rear end. i know it is c-clip but is there any nightmare problems i am going to run into??

no surprises. Very easy to do.
May as well change the gear oil while your in there. Inspecting the clutches on the l/s might be a good idea too.
uh... re you asking for instructions?
1, remove diff cover
2, clean both mounting surfaces ( housing, cover)
3, remove bolt retaining diff pin
4, remove diff pin
5, remove the "s" spring
6, Push the axle in (towards the centers)
7, this will allow you to remove the "C"clips.
8, pull the axles out.
9, pry out the old seals
10 using a socket of equal size....gently tap the new seal in making sure it seats evenly all around.
Axle seal shouldn't take more than 1½-2 hours for both.

its also a real good time to change bearings if your doing it. if you decide to change bearings though you'll have to rent a slide hammer/bearing puller. its not all that hard, dont get scared. pretty simple after you do it the first time. good luck.

If you got gear out all over the brakes you better replace the shoes while you are at it. Gear oil fawks them up:vader2:
