I have an '83 cj-7 that originally had a 258 I-6 in it with the T-5 Transmission. Now the jeep has an AMC 360 in it with the T-5 transmission. I am converting the tranny to a sm420, but I have some questions.

1) Does the SM420 and the T5 use the same size pilot bushing? I have purchased a Novak adapter to marry the tranny to a D300, and they added in a new pilot bushing. I placed the new bushing on both tranny's shafts and it seemed to fit. If that is the case why would I need to change it?

2) Novak says I need to modify the bearing retainer on the SM420 so my T5 throwout will work with it. I have a machinist who says he probably make me a new retainer, but I don't know how long the tube on it should be. Should it be the SM420 length, or the T5 length?

3) Can't I use the same clutch disk with the SM420 that I had with the T5? Since the clutch disk was native to the '83 cj-7?
