: Modified class at Cal-Rocs - how tough?
Jaffer 05-13-2002, 11:20 PM Another small turnout for the new class, I noticed...
And of course, not too many pics.
How tough were their gates?
Brutal? Or did they make them climbable for the intended tire size and suspension types?
Steve N 05-13-2002, 11:39 PM Sundays courses were with some tightening of gates, and moving of gates the ones pro mods ran on saturday. The judges said we made some stuff look easier than the pro mods did, and some stuff like #3(?) look tougher. Matt and I put on a good show after walking up the steep V notch like it wasn't there we helped determined (per the judge) that one gate on that course was un doable. Brad's got pictures he just archived. He'll post a link soon.
Steve N 05-14-2002, 12:04 AM Here's some Brad took of Matt and I. Though in no particular order. On the first obstacle on Sunday I can see us arguing over what line to take. I won because, he rolled  I made a poor decision thinking we could see well enough to attempt a ride along on #2 sunday. and the death flop, that one really hurt the Jeep. :( Check the oil pan photo's.

Jaffer 05-14-2002, 07:47 AM Thanks for the pics guys.
They just about answer my question without saying a word.
Looks like it was a blast!
Unfortunately time wise, my son was graduating from NMSU in Las Cruces this last weekend ...
or I would have been there with bells on!
The "Princess" is much too purdy to be bouncing and rolling off the rocks all the time ... :p

... so I found a good TJ frame in NJ which will ship next week and is to be the foundation of my next season's project ...
a dedicated Stock Modified crawler.
Now I gotta' find a tub ...
The rules are pretty vague in that regard, so it will go on a blue wrench diet along with the rest of the (heavy) frills ...
Mustard Dog 05-14-2002, 07:57 AM Can you guys post some of the cool ones here, the firewall here at work won't let me in to the site due to "adult content" :( :(

Broken Motor.
Jaffer/John The drivers committee is looking at making more defined rules for bodies. I wouldn't gut it just yet.
Monkeyboy 05-14-2002, 10:23 AM Steve, Looks like fun.
Doesn't look like the oil pan had too much fun though.
I'll have to make the trip to the next event you guys do.

Aaahh ... good to know that, Steve.
I'd better keep my ears to the ground.
Jim Peterson here in Farmington and I were planing on using the jigs he built for Dan Brown and daugher Amy Bulloch's stretched (CJ-9/She-J) rigs, doing the thick steel 45* angle rocker to frame union and hacking out as much as the rules will allow.
Trick is ... to make it conform to all three organization's sets of rules:confused:

Steve N 05-15-2002, 02:45 PM If I were to guess the whole 45 degree thing won't be legal, It isn't in Calrocs at least as far as I know.

Well, dang! There goes my plans to recycle a cheap rusted out CJ tub and chop the rockers...
Amy's She-J was constructed off the tub of a $400 CJ junker I'd found and I'd gotten that back from the hard top and doors...
Now I might have to pop for that bare $1800 YJ tub I found or go with an aluminum job.
That'll eat into the ole' axel budget!:(
Guess I'll just work on the frame until the rules settle in...
The only thing for sure right now is it's gonna have COILS!
