I am running a Scout D-44 rear, I grabbed a set of scout rear shafts off of e-bay. The shafts are 3/4" shorter than mine. The guy swears on his mothers grave that they are scout rear shafts. After doing the search I found that scouts had a slightly narrower rear in the sixties but they were two piece axles. Mine are one piece. Was there an intermediate area when the shafts were narrow and one piece? If so what were the years so I can pass these axles on to someone who can use them.
My rear is 58.5" WMS to WMS. These axles should work in a rear thats approx 57" even. That rules out the D-44 Jeep.

With 58.5" WMS to WMS, it sounds like your working on a Scout II. Like Cornfedred said, those shafts are from an earlier Scout. The seller didn't lie, they are Scout shafts..... but are not Scout II shafts.

like the others said, early ('70 or '71) Scout 800 rear shafts.
Most were two-piece, but some were one-piece, and are hard to find.
What you have *may* actually be more valuable than Scout II shafts..
Go to the classifieds, and/or here BB (http://binderbulletin.org) and place a "trade" ad. Of a for sale and a wanted....
SOMEONE will need those shafts, or atleast spares.... I'd almost guarantee it. They are hard to find when you NEED one....

Let me double check my rear tonight. I built 2 scout rears, one for a friend, and measured his because mine was already installed. Just want to make sure there is not an 800, one piece axle rear under mine.
If it is a Scout II rear (I'm 99% sure it is) I will trade the 800 one piece shafts for a Scout II set for the cost of shipping.

OK, I have the Scout II. Now I am looking to trade the one piece 800 shafts.
