: 5.0 Throttle Linkage

I know there are a bunch of people with 5.0's here so I got a q - are you guys using one of those concentric cable things? Getting sick of the tap the gas and Lurch thing. It is just the initial leap that drives me nuts. Thinking maybe a hand throttle or something, I don't think my cable is binding but maybe?

I used the stock mustang linkage and tied it to my stock toyota pedal.

Brandon,

I have the same linkage and the same problem. I had a little bit of a kink near the throttle body. I'm in the process of re-doing mine. I'm also going to put a heavier spring on it.

If you ran the 92+ T-bird or 94-95 Mustang upper intake it will solve this problem. THe intake has the throttle body at 45 deg and elimites the bind.
How do I know this? Gave and up and lower 92 T-bird to a friend as my 5.0 was ported. Now he no longer has the problem and I;m wishing I had kept the intakes. UGH

Ive never had any problem with mine.
It opperates smoothly throughout the travel of the pedal.
When I was running the E303 cam, the throttle was very touchy, but with the B303 cam its as smooth and predictable as can be.
Remember that the 5.0HO is very temperamental if the TPS sensor is not adjusted propperly. Many people overlook it, but it is a very important adjustment.

What is the proper way to adjust the tps? I never messed with mine but i'd like to know it's right.

By the way, i used the lokar cable too with a custom bracket on the throttle body and it works great. was able to run a light spring and it is very smooth

higher milage ford throttle bodys can develop a goove in the throttle body where the throttle plate hits when closed. This, combined with some slop in the throttle shaft can cause it to stick closed. SLIGHTLY adjusting the hard stop (like less than 1/2 turn)
will fix it without having to readjust your tps.

Jason,
Thats excactly what Im talking about.
I have had dozens of people ask me how I got my 5.0 to idle so smoothly even under load, and still be able to control it under heavy throttle launches. I tell them that the key is to adjust the TPS, the ones who do it, are the ones who understand.
Credit where credit is due,...Sillyneck was the one who 1st told me about how much improvement it made in the overall performance.
