: SD Sterling traction aids

I have a 00 4x4 FSD that I drive every day and tow my toys with on the weekends and needs some help in the traction department.

I see Lockright offers a "lunchbox" style locker for the rear 10.5/10.25 Sterling , any comments on how one would hold up in a heavy-ass daily driven PSD Ford?

Thanks, Jeff

Not sure they will hold up or not, but if I'm not mistaken your FX4 has the factory "limitless" slip in the rear. The older lockrights would only fit in an open case, so you would need to source that and then install the lockright. Might be just as easy to spring for a real traction aiding differential at that point. I would make sure of what you have and make sure the lockright will fit.

One of my buddies has a LR in the back of his, with no issues, allthough he doesn't really tow with it.

I plan on putting one in the back of my F-350 DD/tow rig in the next few weeks however, since snow is here, and I will NOT go another winter with an open diff.

The only thing the FX4 package offers is "skid plates" , rancho shocks, and a decal. And they didn't have the FX4 package in '00 it was the 4X4 OFF ROAD package wich was essentially the same thing.

Sorry about the FX4 thing, just read it wrong, however I do have a '02 with the smoking "off road" package and it came with the limitless slip. Worked great for about the 10k miles, pretty much useless after that.

My point is...unless something has changed the lockrights don't fit the factory limited slips.

Now if his has the open rearend, then he is golden.

Yep, my FX4 didn't come with the LS either. Thought that was pretty weak since my F150 before it came with the LS.
I don't know if there's a differance in durability between the lockrite for a toyota and one for a SD, but I know a lot of guys that have broke them in their yota's. Makes me a bit nervous about sticking one in my 8k truck towing a 12k trailer.

I never actually laid eyes on the diff. carrier to see if it's a L/S or an open ... just assumed that anything that worked this poorly had to be an open rear end!

I was wanting someone with a heavy, daily driven rig to chime in on how well they've lasted in there situation , doesn't matter if it's a AAM from a Chevy or D80 from a Dodge.

The LockRight is only a consideration if I do in-fact have an open diff, if there's a L/S in there then I'll be getting a Detroit Locker and tossing that factory diff. in the weeds.
