Ok well i came across this Dana 60 for sale localy and i picked it up without knowing much about it at all. I striped it down and after finding the BOM, looking at tons of pictures of differnt 60s and knowing it had 16 spline shafts, i figured out its from a 71 f250. When i broke the axle down i found out whoever had it before me had welded the spider gears. Now im asuming the 16 spline shafts cant be very strong and sence i need a new carrier now cause of the welded gears (heres the main question of the post) how do i change everything over to 30 spline? What year 60s can i get 30 spline shafts and carrier out of that will bolt right into my houseing now? The BOM is 603195-5 if that helps at all. Any help or more information on this would be greatly valued, Thanks.

You are screwed if you want the 30 spline 60 stuff in that 60. The 30 spline axles are longer than your older 16 spline, so they are too long to fit in that housing. Actually the 16 spline axles are about the same strength as the 30 spline, same diameter I believe...a rear dana 60 is a turd anyway. Should have bought a 1 ton.

Its been hashed out a few times and we came to think their is no gain in going from 16 to 30 spline.
If your going to upgrade it, go 35 spline.

As posted in early this last week...
So you picked up a rear Dana 60 with 16 splines. Most likely it was from a 70-75 Parcel Deliver van or a 73-75 F250 Camper Special or a 70-75 HD 4x2 Pick-up. It came with the same length axle shaft on both sides, Spicer part number 35445-2 with 16 Splines and 34.56” long.

You want to swap the 16 spline shafts for 30…

Below is the Spicer axle shaft part number that is the same length axle shaft but with 30 splines! (Hint don’t for get the spider gears when you pull the shafts, or if your really luckily you’ll find a No-Spin)

35467-3 30 Splines 34.56” Dana 60’s
1976-1979 F250 Crew Cab – Full float
1976 F250 ¾ Ton 4x2 Pickup – Full float
1975-78.5 F250 ¾ Ton HD 4x2 Pickup – Full float (Lots of BOM’s)
1975-78 F250 ¾ Ton Camper Special Pickup – Full float
1979 F250 4x4 – Full float
1979 F250 4x2 – Full float

35467-3 30 Splines 34.56” Dana 61’s
1974-1977 F250 ¾ Ton HD 4x2 Pickup – Full float
1979 F250 Crew Cab – Full float
1979 F250 4x2 – Full float

Not a good option, might work as the shaft is similar in length.
31494-1 30 Splines, 34.75”
1969-1972 C20 Truck Chassis w/Leaf Springs
1969-1972 C20 Truck Chassis w/Coil Springs
1968-1972 C25 Truck Chassis w/Standard Wheel base
1967 L1500 Station Wagon (Chevy)
1967 K1500 Pick-up
1968-1972 K25 Truck Chassis

The 30 spline are stronger, and worth the upgrade.
Make sure the carier hasn't been welded.
