Tim is a nice and personable guy, but he is FLAKY. The 1-2 week job took 7 weeks. No returned calls etc. Some of the work he did on my rig was also not the best. When my rig is finished I plan on paying him a visit, I cam live with the sheetmetal work, but after checking it out closely he owes me a new cage.

What happened Scw? I have seen a samurai built by him and his attention to detail is not the best. His stuff does work, just not pretty.
7 week's huh? My friend that has this samurai in the pic (built by Tim) took a friend to Tim. Tim did finish the rig but left out the cotter pin in the pitman arm:eek: On the way back to WA the drag link managed to stay put till they reached the mountains in Oregon. That's when all hell broke loose! In the snow driving about 50 MPH the drag link let go. My buddy Jeff (owner of the silver samy in pic) was driving while his friend was sleeping, the road started to turn but the samy didn’t, they hit the snow bank and did an endo with a twist:eek:  completely in the air, picture a little blue lifted samurai flying backward and up side down. They hit a tree about 6ft up above the snow then dropped straight down onto he cage. I good thing the cage held up pretty good.
Well with Tim being such a cool guy about this whole ordeal, he offered to replace the Samurai and build it the way the blue one was.....at no charge. Well the guy was stoked since he just dumped $6000 (to Tim)+2000 for the Samurai. Well This whole thing started about three years and to my knowledge[SIZE=4] HE STILL HAS NOT GOT THE SAMURAI BACK!!!!!!!!! :mad3: :mad3: :mad3:

Well that's my Tim Hardy Story....

(Pic with my bumper not Tim's, we needed a winch that weekend)

Like I said, I've got no personal beef with Tim, he is nice and knows alot. The quality of his work was spotty, but overall ok. The part that isn't ok is the cage.

My issues with the cage are three things 1) The tubing used in the overhead stringers was old and heavily corroded, but had been bead blasted so it wasnt readily apparent when I picked it up. Once it was primed the pits were large and obvious. 2)The knee bar is made out of two pieces of tube and butt welded in the center, and was installed crooked. Also the notching was WAY off, and there was a 3/8 gap on the backside that wasn't even welded. 3)The front hoop is also made out of two sticks and butt welded. The butt weld is low on the leg on one side about 10 inches off of the floor. This seems like and area that would be under a shit load of stress and a butt weld IMHO aint right. If that aint enough to make Fatty sleepless the butt weld was under filled and you can feel a dip in the tube. YIKES.

I'm just glad I didnt have him paint it or I might not know...Now that I think about it, why arent I pissed!?

Just woundering but was the tub that was spliced together. Did it have a tube slide inside of it?

Ive been building equipment for many years and when it comes to a safty issue its better to spend the extra $$$ and use good quality materals and full lengths. You can always us that short piece of tubing for bracing or what not.

JUST MY OPINION

and yes i flunked spelling

Zuk-there is no pin inside the tube or sleeve on the outside, its just butted together, welded, and then ground smooth.

Oh I have no personal beef with him either, I just think it's jacked that this guy paid good money ($8000 total 6 to Tim) to have a Samurai and still does not have one. I just can't comprehend it.

Tim's stuff does work, and pretty good at that. Not good quality though.

Oh the Silver Samurai in my pic has pitting in the tube, and the notching was marginal at best as well.

Tim maybe the nicest guy around, but he wont be working on any of my Samurai's.

i dunno, i talked with him and he work seems of high quality for the money. he doesnt try and hose you like alot of other 4x4 fab places do in this area -cough-wardens-cough-. also, alot of his idea's have truely pioneered how wheeling zuki's are built today.

also, this doesn't matter much to alot of you people, but hes local for me. i personally have a big thing with trying to keep my money in my hometown and in the hands of fellow wheelers, not big companies.

Well I have seens Tim work 1st hand, on my buddys samurai. I personally won't pay for something that has the "slapped together" look.
I do agree on the keeping money local. I shop around to all the big boy's, then I go see Gary at Petroworks (15 mins away) to see if he can get close to the qoutes, if so I get it there.
