Can I use a flange off the front of a Disco I, NAS D90, or later RRC on a rear drum brake salisbury axle, perhaps with cutting the end off of the axle, to run alloys without having the hub stick through the center?

Run Disc brake Sals flanges (same as disco) and shafts, you would need to turn down the OD of the pilot on the flange to make it work though.. The pilot on the older stuff is an SAE dimension the later stuff a metric one.
In thought the shafts may not work as the stub axle is shorter... Try it with the Disco Flange turned to the pilot diameter you may only need to cut 1/2" from the diff end of the alxe..
