Is it absolutely neccessary to vent your diffs? Will an ARB air line act as a vent? Thanks for the help guys.

NO an ARB line can't act as vent! Yes you must have a vent.

Why wouldnt you want to use your vent??? You plan on welding the whole up?

Neither of my axles have vent holes in them(scout 2 d44 & gm front d44). I guess I will have to drill some holes in the housing or diff covers.

They must be under all that grease........Both of those axles had vent holes.......Maybe there is a screw in it?

Got to have a vent. As the axle heats they need to be able to vent pressure or it will force past the wheel and pinion seals.
You guys out in the desert probably don't have to worry much about this but those of use that have deep mud and water to go through usualy put a extended vent line up HIGH. If you don't when that hot axle hits some cold water it needs to suck in some air. If it doesn't have a place to do so then it will suck water past the seals.

The air line is where the vent used to be, and the rear has nothing at all. It does have a small threaded hole on top of each axle tube. Any idea what those were used for?

That's where your vent *used* to be :)
