How many of you guys have welded on a threaded bung to the end of the rod on a hydraulic ram, so that you can have a heim on the end? Has anyone had any failures with this setup? I think I am gonna have to do this because I don't have enough room for the stock thingy majig that came with the ram.

I'm in the process of modifying a rebuildable 8" stroke ram right now....cut down the tube for 6.5" stroke and will be cutting the shaft as needed to weld on a heim eye on the end. IMO no big deal. Gonna be a few weeks til I get time to work on it again tho....

hey Woody, I hope* you're planning on having that cylinder tube
faced in a lathe before reassembling.......... notice the chamfer on
the end of the tube, and the fact that you'll never be able to get it
as true square without facing the ends..........

I'll gladly face it for you, but you'll have to send it to me to do it.
I'm in San Jose BTW if you're interested. I could also thread the
rod-end as well... either female or male threads.

I just chunked mine in a lathe and turned down the threaded portion on the piston down to the required diameter. Then just threw a die on it and cut the threads in. Than ran a short piece of DOM as a sleeve and then a heim on the other end of the sleeve. Worked out slick and allows it to be adjusted for length if need be.
