A friend of mine has sold a couple winch bumpers thru ebay. He used Greyhound to ship them because they were heavy and it was really cheap. It may take a bit longer though.

Call Forward Air and ask them were they have terminals. I just called today and the guy said they just got 3 new places in TX. If not them go with FedEx, they are cheaper then UPS.

www.freightpro.com is good too, I shipped a pair of axles through them.

Those of you who have shipped via Forward Air before- what did you have to crate and what was allowed to be shipped without a crate?

they wanted me to crate axles, so those went via freightpro (as the cost to my buyer's door was about the same as the forward air cost to a terminal, and freightpro said that axles on an open skid was fine), the tires I shipped via forward air, I just stacked them up 5 high on a pallet, banded them down and they were good to go.

Forward air wants anything that can be lifted with a fork lift. I shipped an axle on a wood pallet. And they are fine with that. If you call them they will say to crate everything. For a winch, I'd definately have him build a wood box.
