From my childhood on, I have always seemed to gravitate towards rescuing old stuff and trying to rehabilitate it. Furniture, appliances and eventually Landcruisers. That probably explains how I ended up being an old-school Landcruiser mechanic.

Anyways, I rescued this cool old sewing machine from a very uncertain future a few months ago with no specific intention other than to have a good look at it in the daylight at some point in the future. Now that I have finally had that opportunity, I could not resist putting a few hours into brightening up the old girl in hopes of finding her a better home. Just took a look on an old sewing machine website and found a cool old ad copy for it when it was new. No date tho.

Anybody here into this stuff?

Mark,

If you fix it up and get it going then you could make your own seat covers and pants....Then you would be a man who could take care or himself:p

hey, that's pretty cool. I'd say probally around the 1900's or so... My parents have one similier and it's around that era...so I'm guessing this one maybe is too. Pretty cool anyway.

i ain't stitchin shit, but she's gonna "fab" up some sleeves for the tail gate chains on the tan 45 to keep em quiet. same material as the canvass top of course; it's gotta match afterall. so maybe it's worth having a sewing machine at home?!

I picked up an ancient South Bend Lathe to save it from sure demise. I can't find out much about it... oldest serial number I have run across in my searching for info is 11,855, which was built in 1917. The serial number of mine is 3502. I'm a member of a very active South Bend users group on Yahoo!, and it is older than anything anyone on there has seen.
