A buddy of mine is looking at buying a Currie-built 60 for his CJ-7.

35 spline shafts, full floater, detroit, drums, Currie built housing to 60 1/2" wide.

IMHO, $3k seems steep.

Could anyone here build one similarly-equipped for much less than $3k?

He's really hung-up on the full floater kit, which he says costs $900. what're your thoughts on that?

I think his only hangup is having the ff, which is apparently 5 on 5x5.5. He wants this for flat towing
He also likes the idea of Currie warrantying it for a year. (Read: NOT light on the happy pedal!) ;)

TJ7,
Did you build it yourself, or did someone put it together for you?

Thanks for the input guys! Trying to save the guy some $$$, your tips are helpful.

Dana 60 hd comes with 35 spline 1.5" axels and 70 outers. Got mine out of a pnp for $45 and it had 4.88 gears. and around $250 to convert it to disk then welded the carrier up.

Not a problem FF 5X5.5 here is what you do but $3k with warranty is not bad...Here is the brake down with normal prices but most of these can be done for less.

A 60 housing...$100
Narrow the housing...$250
9" ends form Dutchman, Mosier, Mark Williams, Chrisman, Strange, or Chris Alston....$80 or less
Gears...$200 could be more if 5.13's but probably less
Instal kit....$100
Gear set-up...$250
Detroit...$550
Warn FF kit for Ford 9" with spindles, bearings, hub's, locking hub's, and axles...$980
Disk brakes....$250
New spring pads...$20

Total
$3130 and you did all the work or running around.

Most people don't take into account that there is a big difference between what I can build an axle for comparied to what I can build an axle for.:flipoff2:

for that coin and a jeep I would be looking at a custom full float NASCAR 9" rear from stockcarproducts
it seems stupid to covert it to 9" ends then use a bolt on FF kit
