: transfer case opinions for eb
bent70 05-15-2002, 01:39 PM I have a eb and its all one ton except for the transfercase. While attepmting to order a rear shaft I was highly recomended to either go with 32spl. output upgrade for the 20 or go with the 205.
The prices so far:
32spl. upgrade $350
205 adapters etc. $750 (qoute from parts house)
Atlas $$$$
Now I have a np435 and love it, but also there is the option of c6+205 from junkyard price to $450.
What do you think I should do and why? Problems with any setup?
I am also tring to do this dirt cheap.
Flatty 05-15-2002, 02:17 PM The C6 to 205 wil not work unless you have a Cleveland 351 or a 460.
If it was me, I would go witht he auto, and save the money for the Atlas.

Mondo EB 05-15-2002, 02:25 PM [32spl. upgrade $350- moves weak link to front output shaft
205 adapters etc. $750 (qoute from parts house)- bombproof but will lose 20% of your gearing. If you don't care then there's a c6/205 is available cheap in Concord.
Atlas $$$$- no downside other than you'll be too poor to wheel
You gave up on 1/2 ton axle bandaids so why treat your transfer case differently? Get your output checked, buy a spare for $75 and then save your pennys for an Atlas or 203/205 combo.
bent70 05-15-2002, 02:33 PM I was thinking the same about the 20's weak link going to the front output.
I really want to keep my 435 I have grown to like it over an auto greatly.
As for the 205 this is at the top of my list, I scaned the search, but are there any issues with mounting a married 205 to the 435. Like output shaft on the tranny and adapter. Clearance within the frame rails, body, etc.
thanks
scott
bent70 05-15-2002, 02:37 PM Also when I was about to order my driveline the guy said it would only last a short while and that since the transfercase side was running 1/2 ton hardware they couldn't warantee it with my 39's
tonto 05-15-2002, 02:43 PM Maybe check out the ZF 5speed conversion from B.C. Broncos http://www.bcbroncos.com/ granny low first and an O.D. 5th, and I think the adapter gives you some clocking options also, combine that with a Dana-20 output upgrade and you might be good to go
bent70 05-15-2002, 02:51 PM I don't know about that one
The granny isn't that low, still got a 20, and most improtantly it's $$$$$.
If it were a daily driver with smaller tires that would be a great combo because of the od, but that granny isn't low enough I've used one.

Why will a C-6 only work with a 351 Cleveland or 460? THey made plenty of C-6 with small block bolt patterns (I've got one in my Bronco). The real problem with a C6 in an EB is length, as it will make the rear DS a bit short.
Since the 205 case was available behind the NP435 in 78-79 F-250s and such, you shouldn't have too much trouble rounding up fairly cheap parts to swap it in with. As far as width goes and frame interference, I've got no clue...

Actuyally the C6 is not too long for the bronco. And yea there are C6's behind the ther 302's, and such motors, but find me one of those witha 205 behoind uit. They do not exhist. I have been looking for them all over the place. They only exhist behind the BB and the Clevland 351 which has a funky bellhousing bolt design on them.
Dimitri
FordPowr 05-15-2002, 06:43 PM The 351 Clevland never came in a 4x4....but I'm guessin' your talking abou the 351M which has the same bellhousing pattern as a 429/460.
While you may have a hard time finding a small block c-6 that has a 205 attached from the factory...It's supa easy to do yourself. All the 4x4 C-6's should use the 6-bolt round pattern with a 31 spline output. Just grap you 205 and bolt it up to c-6 from an 80 or newer F-series/Bronco
John Deere Ranger 05-15-2002, 08:17 PM Now I don't see how its $750 to put an NP205 behind a NP435...... Now correct me if i'm wrong but Ford put a WHOLE bunch of NP205/NP435 combos in F150/250/350 and Bronco's Now I found a combo just the other week $200 now that might be super cheep but you should be able to find the combo for ALOT cheeper than some other options....
bent70 05-15-2002, 08:30 PM Thats what I was quoted then I laughed at the guy and hung up.
I'm sure I can find the combo for $200 or cheaper.
Does anyone know if I can just bolt a 205 up to my 435 since some came behind them? Is the adapter different from the 20 and 205?
clc900 05-16-2002, 09:09 AM I am not 100% sure but the adpaters will be different. Not all 205 are the same spline. If you find the right 205 with the right splines and bolt pattern yes it will bolt up to your 435. If you like the 435 this is the choice I would make. 435/205 combo. Decent crawl, bullet proof.
Good luck!
Flatty 05-16-2002, 09:46 AM Scott, give me a call at 415-517-2692 I want to come by today about noon time to get that top. Let me know if that is cool. I got the cash, just need something to keep my head covered.

All the Ford 205's have the same spline...married cases at least. But it is different than the Bronco D20 spline count and moutning patter. As long as you get a NP435 from a Ford 4X4 with a married t-case it'll bolt up to a Ford 205.
welndmn 05-16-2002, 10:51 AM I like having the HD output, I have not loast the front yet (i am am trying) i normall pop axles way before, I am hopeing the 1310 driveshaft will let go.
The rear let go beacuse it sits at such an angle its alread under load where the front is not that bad of angle at all.
But its your choice, the atlas is great i would love to have one, i just never have enough $$
FYI, on the trail, find me, i always have front or rear outputs for sale on the trail :D
no i don't want to sell them now, its better to carry them for people who don't have a spare on the trail, I have been there, and it sucked!
(the last one i tried to give to a friend on the trail, i even helped him install it, he kept me liqured up for a week!, thats what i am talking about!
bent70 05-16-2002, 12:48 PM I just got a line on the right 205 combo and a crossmember. I hoping it is what I want. Plus this way I can throw a 203 in later for a doubler :D Then I'll have gearing for all occasions.
Flatty 05-16-2002, 03:19 PM Scott, I forgot to grab the riser today when I came to pick up the top. I knew as I was driving away taht I missed something. Can you pull that thing so that I can come by and grab it later?
Thanks
Dimitri
bent70 05-16-2002, 04:23 PM yea,
no problem
