so how strong is an eaton compared to say a actualy 14bff?

Not as strong. The Eaton carrier will accept the FF 14 bolt 30 spline spider gears or detroit and will also accept the same 14 bolt shafts.

Basically, you can use most of the best parts of the 14 bolt with the removeable third member of the Eaton :D

In my experience they are just as strong and better ground clearance. Gear choice just suck.

gear selection doesn't suck that much. most came with 4.10, 4.56 or 5.13 i believe. that's great choice to meif you find a factory 5.13, then you just have to gear the front.

They're stronger IMO and offer better clearance,and easier to find 5.13's factoy :D .

i know there are a few threads on this but in my quickgoogle searchi couldnt find anything on thi and ithought i heard something about the m being 19 spline or something like that

well perfect i have a 14 bolt in my driveway so i can swap just the spiders and keep the 5.13 outta the eaton?!

AFAIK the SRW 14bolt is the same width as the Standard eaton. Same with the van width ones.

no, at least the srw and drw version are 2" narrower each than their 14 bolt counterpart. i have never seen or measured a van eaton, though.
