Is anyone using a Currie steering box brace on a TJ, or what kind would be a good one or any ideas on a custum one.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Currie brace on mine. Had to grind a little bit of the webbing on the back of the bock to get it to fit "just right". You can't go wrong with hardly any of them out there. Pretty basic thing.

I made mine, sorry bout the crappy pics:

I Just drilled a 5/16ths hole in one of the unused "ears" on the bottom of the steering box, and tapped it.

Cut a couple of sections of 2 inch 3/16ths angle iron and drilled holes in them for bolting to the box , and to the frame.

Bolted the brackets to each mounting point, one on the bottom of the frame rail using an existing unused hole.

Cut a section of 5/8ths round steel stock to length and tacked it to the brackets with the MIG.

Removed the assembly and finished the welds, cleaned it up a little primed and painted it.

Seems to work well. When I go bigger with tires, I will probably beef this thing up.

I'm not really thrilled with the mount to the box, but it seems to be fine with 33's and a welded front diff.

Any constructive ideas for a box mount that would be fairly simple, and beefier would be appreciated.

ITs not that hard to make, I bought the box mount portion, I liked the idea of using a collar around the output shaft of the box.

I then took some 1 inch .120 wall tubing flattend the ends
welded it closed and drilled a hole in it for the box mount. For the frame mount I took a piece of flat stock welded it to the other end and and bolted it to the pre existing holes in my frame..

I dont like the welded idea to the oppsite side of the frame, Inorder to remove the steering box or any linkage off the box I have to remove my box brace, with it welded solid on the frame there is no way to move it out of the way.

Heavy duty muffler clamp, piece of angle iron. Cost about $2.50 Time to make less then making a phone call and getting your visa out to give away $55-80. Works great and it's been on there for about 6 years now.

This is on a CJ, only quickly looked a few TJ frames, and it will be just as easy
