I have a 81 Scrambler with a full width 60 front with high steer conversion. I am also running leaf springs with 2 degree shims. Does anyone have a similiar set-up with some pictures of their ram mount. I would like to keep it as simple and high as possible and still not not have any clearance issues. Also what size ram are ya'll using for 40 inch tires. Thinking on using 1.5" bore with 8" stroke. Any comments or suggestions ?

The ram size depends on weather or not you're using the steering box or an orbital valve, and how fast you want it to turn. For hydro assist, the 1.5x8 is fine. For full hydro, you should use 2x8 at the minimum.
Here is my hydro setup with hi-steer back when I had leaf springs.

I wheeled this set-up hard this summer, running the toughest trails in Colorado. I never had any problems. The only thing I would do different is add an oil cooler so I could get more volume,
I purchased all parts from surpluscenter.com. I would get some 1/4" NPT plugs too. This way, if the ram fails, you can always plug the box and still have power steering.
The part #s are:
9-6645n 1.5x8x1 HYD cylinder
9-6405-4-4 adapter to ram
9-1503-4-4 45* swivel to box
916-1436 36" hydro line
9-1501-4-4 90* to adapter to ram
Total cost was $106.55 to my door.
I also opened the flow from my pump using the West Texas Off-Road technique http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/powersteering.html.
I DID NOT add any more pressure, just flow.
Here are some pics of how I mounted the system. This will not work for everyone.

From the front. You can see how the active end of the ram mounts to the tie rod.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN INSTALLING THE RAM
The throw of the ram is 8"s. It was too much for my steering, so I had to add a spacer inside the ram (very easy to do). If you don't, the ram will continue to push/pull on your knuckles after the "steering stops". NOT GOOD. I put the front on jack stands, tack welded the brackets in place and cycled the steering. The ram broke the tack welds. I added spacers to the rod and cycled the steering until it would push and pull evenly (without exceeding the limits of my steering). You must also make sure all lines and fittings clear everything. This includes full flex when wheeling. I have a rock in my front yard that I am able to pull onto to test clearance (who needs an RTI ramp). After I made all adjustments, I welded the brackets and bled the system. I gave it the real world test yesterday by running Patriot three times. I figured if it was going to break, it would do it there. It worked great.

I see you have assist.............do you like it or do you regret not doing full hydro?? I was thinking about doing full hydro but I might drive it on the street every once in a while. I dunno===========Kyle

If you have a trailer and only will be driving on the street once in a while then get full hydro. I trailer mine to the trails but I have had it up to highway speed for short periods without any issue.
if you're driving this thing to the trail then keep the steering box.
