: dash speakers

well...the mice decided it was a good idea to move into my vents :mad3:

so i figured, while im cleaning them out and the dash pad is off, i might as well replace the 17 year old speakers. i know theyre 4 inch or 4 1/2 or something small like that, but i was wondering if i could fit bigger ones in without cutting anything? i was looking at 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" speakers. i would like to keep them in the stock location.

also on the speakers end of things, what all needs to be done to install 6x9's in place of the rear 4x10's?

thanks in advance

why dont you go to some rice forum and ask this shit ass question. You should just go ahead and never come back here. How is asking about speakers hard core tech????

Let me know how you can justify this.

just go get some polk or infiniti speakers, anything will sound better then those speakers. plus if your just running it off of the dek or small amp without putting in any sound deadner its not really gonna make a sound differene going to a bigger speakers.

btw a round speaker will sound beater then an oval speker any day

yeah i was thinking of just going with the 4's. i saw 2 different pioneer 3 ways at best buy, 1 set was $51 the other was like $58 and i have $50 gift cards floating around so im probably just gonna get the nicer of the 2. the deck is an xplod...not sure what model but its a decent one. i was just hoping someone else tried putting in bigger speakers, and i dont have my pad off yet so i have no clue on how much room there is to play with.

well when your running off the deck anything sounds better then the stock speakers. for the back speakers you could probably get away with triming the center some and putting on mdf over the hole with a 5 1/2" hole for some 2 way speakers. only thing we use oval speakers(6x9,5x7 etc) is for fill. if your looking for some bass, id look into a thin 10" and a small amp.

i just got rid of 2 10 inch subs and a spare deck. sold them to my buddy for his MG... i wish i still had em, my new hearse has like one working speaker...

whats mdf...is that sound deadaning pad?

im not really into huge bass rattling the rear view mirror off the window like most people my age, but im thinking about getting a square kicker and making a box to put under the rear seat

MDF is multi density fiberboard, its like particle board on steroids, its a lot thicker, tightly packed, doesnt flex or rattle like plywood, and handles a lot of abuse, and weighs about 100 lbs a sheet, ask me how I know.

ohh ok. i know what that is...

any of the solodaric(spuare) kickers arent very thin and it would be hard to fit under a seat, i ran two 12" solo x's in my truck and there about 8"s deep.

if your gonna run some under your seat id suggest two 8"s or one thin 10" sub, and it would have to be a sealed box to even sound good.

i was talking about under the rear seats...remember its a suburban. i think there will be enough room for a 12 or two 10's. right now i have my 12 volt compressor, rubber boots and some tools under there, and it looks like enough room, but i guess i wont know until i get to that point.

where did you mount your subs

>>>if this isnt the right forum to have this toic, where should i move it to? thanks

i was thinkin of a truck sorry, i would measure the amount of room you have and look at the sub measurments and go from there.

mine's in an an extended cab truck and i took out the back seat and my box took up most of the room just for the two kickers, now iam just running one 10" in a ported box and have enough room for a half truck tool box and a carry tool box, with the amps mounted to the back wall.

Dude, your name's got the word "beater" in it. Just cut a hole and fit whatever you want. My truck had 4x6 and they sucked. So when I make new sheetmetal door panels I'm gonna mount some marine 6" components in the doors.

You can find good deals on e-bay, or I can get you any Pyle, Pryamid, Legacy, or Blitz at cost. I don't do audio to make money. I just got set up as a dealer for doing back up cams and monitors on some of the trucks I build.

im e-bay retarded. my brother buys stuff from there all the time...i just dont know how to use it. the whole shipping thing scares me for some reason.

what % is the markup...by that i mean...if i were to go to say...best buy, and find some speakers or an amp i liked, roughly what percent would i be able to take off to get an idea of what your cost is...or would it possibly not even be worth it because of shipping...?

i have a line on 2 rockford fosgate 12''s but im not sure what model they are. theyre used. what would you value them at?

thanks

id say dont go over 100 each for the rockfords, depending on the model. i second the ebay idea but make sure its someone with good feedback, or check your local craigslist. if your looking for clean loud bass, your box will be more important then anything. if you build the box right a single 10" can sound just as good as two 12"s and it takes up less room.

Tawl_Boy- those are all park-n-swap brands, but they can sound good as long as you have the right box and a low power amp.

I know they're the cheap, stuff. I got hooked up with 'em for the cheap lcd screens and cameras. Which I've a had zero problems with. I run a Legacy amp. And a Pyle head unit with a 7" monitor. But I can get all their stuff for insane cheap.

Beater, if you got the time, go to www.pyleaudio.com. Look around and pm me the part numbers of anything you like.
Ignore the msrp they have listed. I can beat it big time. And I'll qoute you a price at my exact cost + whatever it take to have it dropped shipped to you.
I don't care if you go another route, I'm just offerin' to help.

thanks for the offer. ill definitly keep it in mind. i just found a set of 35's on rims for $250, so im gonna put those before sound. i was just trying to tow my VW through the field with snow... well lets just say 29 inch allterrains and open diffs arent the easiest things to get along with, as well as autolocker hubs and a shitty outer u joint.

i still have the gift cards for best buy, and i think i will go with the 4's for now, and work something out with my buddy with the subs later on.

thanks again for the help

uh sweet, i however drive my truck every day and not having a radio would be a little..well boring. its got the stock GM speakers, and a CD player i got for free because i dont have many cassettes. The deck is mounted in the dash off a 78 jimmy i got from a junkyard for $4 and cut out the hole to fit, as opposed to buying an 'install kit' it IS 2007 by the way. the only reason im even thinking of better speakers is because i will have my dash off anyway, because like most people i dont park in a garage and mice got into my heat vents. and what else am i going to get from best buy for $50 gift cards??

im picking up some used 35x15.5 TSL SX's on tuesday, on rims, for $250. im sorry my truck isnt a rock crawler. it would be kind of hard to climb nothing though, being that i live in southern minnesota.

no, its not hardcore tech, but i guaruntee im not the only one in the 4x4 world who would like to listen to decent sounding music. maybe there should be an audio forum..?
