Hey guys just wondering if this will be fine? Its a D35c just to help answer my question. My jeep has twisted the rear right axle at the splines a little and the only spare second hand one i can get is a rear left.. just wondering if it is even possible to interchange them and if it will run fine. as i thought that axles were tempered and hardened to run in one dirction.

Cheers

axles shafts do not know witch way thay are going.

shafts should be deffernt lengths, so not fit.

replace with a ford 9in, D44 axle,(not the d44a) or even a D60 (big bucks)

if the splines are twisted ONLY run it in the side it was in. by untwisting it will fail.

think of it as bending a peice of metal back and forth it will fail.

it will last longer (beleive it or not) if left in the rotation it twisted in, than if you reverse it.

There are only a few axles that use the same length shaft on both sides, and IIRC the D35 isn't one of them.

if you are going to swap them out go with an ford 8.8" plenty strong and has the same 5 on 4.5 lug pattern which will allow you to keep the same wheels plus factory posi in many and 3.73's or 4.10's

D60 rears are cheap but if your not running a big tire there is no point to lose ground clearance, add weight and have to get new wheels

also i dont think d35s have equal length slafts not sure tho

Cheers guys but over here those axles are hard to get. let alone another 35 even. a 8.8 comes in a ford explorer i believe but is 1" narrower? the ford 9" is worth about $1200AU = $2000+ US And other axles are also rare. We have a few F250's with the larger axles and pumpkins on the correct side of the diff but they still cost lots and are hard to find.

What one guy did was cut a nissan patrol diff (i think its 10") and swapped over the pumpkin to run in a Jeep Wrangler but that was a very costly job for 2 diffs, tail shafts and all the rest.

the pumpkin on the 35 looks dead in the centre.. hmm musnt be.

NMEinc, i didnt mean to swap the bad axle left to right/ vise versa. i mean to run a new axle the left hand side ones and keep the still fine other left hand side one.
