: Ford intake/vacume question

I have been working on a throttle body fuel injection swap. I havn't been able to get it to run right yet, and during the install i noticed another problem with the motor (1978 ford 251w with performer intake). The cork gasket that goes between the block and the intake has squeezed out of the front side of the motor. I was able to reach down and pull it out, that is how far out it has squeezed out. My question is: is this causing a vacume leak? Because if this is the case, I have a feeling that this is why my motor is not running properly with the throttle body.

No, that is not going to cause a vacuum leak.
Now assuming that your intake gaskets are good and aren't leaking you should be fine. The only problem I see is that the positive crankcase ventilation will be sucking air and dirt through that missing gasket instead of through your breather on your valve cover, or through the air filter like its supposed to.

I beleive most of the TBI systems use a map sensor, so that would be ok. if it was mass air, the air sucked in from the pcv is metered air and will make the thing run like shit.

This is a gm throttle body, I do have a pcv valve, but im not clear on what you guys are trying to say. Is it possible that it is sucking air through the bad intake gasket making it run bad, or do you think I have a problem somewhere else?
