: Cherokee front anti-wrap bar

I have leaf springs on the front of my Cherokee, and am now a victim of semi-bad anti-wrap. Not bad enough to break anything yet, but it is just annoying. I am thinking on building an anti-wrap bar for the front. Currently, I am running a driver's drop waggy dana 44 up front. My question is, what would be the best design in terms of a crossmember, and which joints to use (rubber, heims, JJ's, flex joints, etc) and if anyone has pics of a setup they have seen, or built that would be great also.

Here is the setup of the rig (ignore the ridiculously inverted leaf springs...they are stock CJ rear springs, which sit flat at static ride height.)

Most of your problem is probably the used saggy front springs.

i hear 4-links are good at stopping axle wrap :flipoff2:

The factory had this issue put to bed before you got you're hands on it :flipoff2:

thank you. this helps me out so much, because it is totally new information to me. i wasn't asking what was causing my axle wrap...i was asking to see setups that fixed it.:flipoff2:

Take a search around and see if you can find the writeup about using some 1/8" wire cable and cable clamps to make a budget anti-wrap device. I think it might have been Geberhard's idea.

Sounds ghetto as all hell, but I was very surprised how well it worked last time I was out with a buddy of mine. He had pretty gnarly front axle wrap, spent $15 for the cable & clamps, and it got much better.

i've looked into it, but as far as i know, you need to have arch in the springs for it to work...or so that is what i learned last time i researched the subject. mine are flat, so if that is the case i am boned.

you can't just put a 1-link on? use the factory LCA frame mount and LCA axle mount with adj arms:confused:

no. factory LCA mounts at the unibody are where the leaves are mounted, and there are no LCA mounts on the axle.

so get a custom bracket frame and axle side. But in reality, I would get two arms, or mount the one-link dead center so you don't put more stress on one side.

Just curious, did you reinforce the LCA mounts?

when i first got hte jeep, the suspension was totally jankified with a ridiculous shackle reversal which put the leaf spring at a 35 degree angle. the guy cut the stock lca brackets off to make room for the other brackets. i took another stock set, and welded some 3/16 on each side of the bracket to beef it up a bit.

so to answer your question, yes.

Can't friggen find it

I used some scrap LCA's hack as hell looking but it worked.

I only made one for one side, day before a trip kinda think and never got around to making a second one. Eventaully I bent the main leaf on the side with not Anti-wrap bar, the new toyota main leafs I put on where alittle differetn off set so I didnt put the antiwrap on for the very next trip and it bent the main leaf on the side that normall had the antiwrap.

It may prevent this, but after two trips in arow I was done with leafs and gave them up for links...Wish I did shackel in back I might still have been happy with leafs.

I also recomend for any leaf spring wheeler to make a thick plate and bolt setup to clamp fix a failure. Before I made this I had a bailing wire trail fix but the plate and bolts clamp is better.

you can try making a military wrap leaf like i did when i had my MJ with leafs up front. I used a toyota rear 2nd leaf (the one that has the military wrap), and re-drilled the center pin. Worked very well and i never bent a spring with this pack.

Oh yeah, and ignore all these guys giving you crap about running leafs up front. I was pretty stoked on how mine worked. Liked it better than the coils.

I agree that your springs are the problem...
My Xj has front leafs & no wrap....I use BDS 3.5"YJ springs with TNTCUSTOMS 6" boomerang shackle.

I am sorry I misunderstood your question. I thought you were looking for the cause of your axle wrap, which is the old saggy springs. Not a bandaid for the old saggy springs:flipoff2:
