these are the current drivetrain options i have available.
TBI 350/sm420, 700r4, or a th350/205, a pair of 205's, or a dana 300
TBI 4.3/sm420, 700r4, or th350/205, a pair of 205's, or a dana 300
22re, toy 5 speed, with one, or 2 toyota t-cases behind it.
Front axle could be a RC dana 44 or RC dana 60
rear axle could be a RC dana 44, standard 44, or a standard dana 60(hopefully eventually a RC 60)
This all going on a super light tube frame, with coil spring suspension.
Everything listed above I have, or is a phone call away, but I need to decide before i start bending the chasis.

if lightweight truly is a concern then a pair of 205's is definitely not a choice i'd make.

definately, the choice if you really want a super light weight buggy. Then use RC 44 front and normal 44 rear (both shaved) and you would have a phat light weight buggy, with super low gears and crazy clearance. If you are really going super light weight 60s would be overkill in my opinion...

Since you do not have this set up yet I have a couple other options to consider.
350/ZF auto/LT230
or
350/TH350/LT230
With the LT230 you could probably run a RC60 front in the back w/o retubing or a waggy 44 if you wanted to go narrow or an offset 60 or 70 out of a van or flipped Eaton if you want to go full width. Gets you a 3.3 low stock with the LT230 plus its an Alum case but still very strong.
Plus when you become independently wealthy you can buy a bolt on underdrive for the LT230 which puts you in the 9:1 range
