1st thing I'am not a ford man. Drove GM & Jeep all my life.
My boss nowing this got me a 2000 F350 power stroke with a 6 speed trany.
for my co. truck to drive the problem is it has a noise that sound like a vacum leak real load and It does it on and off but when it does it the truck has no power.Makes no diff. if it is warmed up or cold. left town took 3 miles before it had the power to get to 50mph and when the noise quit it ran great like turning a switch on or off. Hepl!!!!

Its the exhaust back pressure valve. Just unhook it and you will be alot happier. It closes to warm the motor up faster, thus blocking the exhaust. That is why you have no power. It sounds like yours is sticking..

I second that, sounds like that is your problem or at least a good place to start

Yep that is normal (I work on them at a dealer) we here this every winter there is a ssm on that concern I would unhook it too but it might set a code but at least you will know what set it.

i have a 2004 6.0 and it has no power in the lower rpm range i thought it was the 38 inch tires and the turbo lag but could it be this gate....

4thed, 5therd, and 6'd

At least unplug it, or if you are feeling crafty pull the EBPV and gut the butterfly out of it and weld up the pivot holes.

It's that Damn backpressure valve. Disconnect it! If your driving on ice It will cause the back wheels to lock up when you let off the gas; the engine rpms drop fast and then it will open and you have all you power back. It will keep cycling like this till the engine is warmed up or your in the ditch. It put me in the ditch a week ago. The auto guys won't have this problem.

it is a two wire connector at the base of the turbo
