: Probaly a newbie question (exhaust)
94stepsideford 02-01-2007, 05:48 PM But its more ford than anything. How are you guys fitting your drivers side pipe around the t-case? Is it okay to run a pipe to the passangers side and then back to the drivers?
The plan right now is to cut my ehaust off at the first factory cat and running duals from there. (I'll put some shorty headers on the stock flanges/crosspipe). is this an okay Idea? Or will one pipe being longer than the other fuck somthing up?
f250crawler 02-01-2007, 08:31 PM mine goes under the bellhousing between the tranny and motor. ford runs all the fuel lines and wiring on the drivers side, so heat shields might help. if you want to keep it up high it might be easier to run a 3" single pipe to a catback or just straight pipe.
LeviGarrett76 02-01-2007, 09:51 PM run them both on the pass. side.....or fab a y pipe and run it down the pass side
in my truck back in the day there was enough room for dual 3" down the passenger side....
i have two 3" going into a 4" i built and i like it much better
94stepsideford 02-01-2007, 10:42 PM I have a single 3" now and just plain-old dont like it. It wont set off car alarms yet:flipoff2:
I was thinking of running them off the stock manifolds, both down the pass side and having them run out the back beside the reese hitch. but would the differance in pipe length hurt anything? (seeings one pipe will be about 3ft longer than the other?)
Proeliator 02-01-2007, 11:38 PM I just run both mine down the passenger side, easy enough.
f250crawler 02-02-2007, 12:07 AM how is it setup now? straight 3" with a muffler?
mine goes 3" from manifolds to cat and 3" to a 40 series flowmaster and foot lon piece of 3". from the front of the cat to the end of the pipe fromt the muffler is only 5-6ft and its all straight.
mine sets off car alarms:flipoff2:
Farm Boy 02-02-2007, 07:27 AM The difference in pipe length won't make a difference if you put a H-pipe in, which will equalize ehaust pressure between both sides and reduce scavaging.

I guess thats what Im gonna do. Exit them both right in front of the rear pass side tire
Proeliator 02-02-2007, 11:07 AM how is it setup now? straight 3" with a muffler?
Yea, dual 3" with mufflers. I know everybody says "why mufflers" but it was stupid loud with the mufflers I had on it; with straight pipes it makes your ears bleed. Not kidding.
The driver side runs fairly straight back, where the passenger comes off the header and directly curves over to meet the driver side run. I actually would have run the passenger side straight back too, but I've got my water lines for the rear mount radiator on that side so it was impossible. Although I didn't use a crossover pipe (X or H), I did balance the system (everything is equidistant)....which ended up with the driver side run dumping just past the axle, and the passenger side dumping a little bit before the rear bumper.
I don't really enjoy migging thin, aluminized exhaust pipe but it turned out pretty good.
Groundhawg 02-02-2007, 11:25 AM The equal length pipe stuff is no doubt needed in say...NASCAR...but I highly doubt that you are looking toward that type of situation.
Figure out how it is going to fit the best, run a crossover pipe if it makes you panties feel good, then run it.
The main things you need to look out for is keeping the exhaust away from the wiring, fuel and brake lines, and the transmission cooler lines, if you have an auto. If you are getting close to heating up the floorboards, you might look at muffler placement or adding some sheilding.
Mine goes from the stock cast manifolds into some 2.5" tube that is set up just like stock. I then extended them both enough and bent the pipe enough that I could get a dual in Flowmaster tucked in above the frame rails so that it was safe. Then, the single 3" outlet has just enough length added so that the turndown goes past the rear axle. It sounds good, but it's not that loud...what else do you need?

Actually, it does help with a high performance engine. Not much, but all those little tweaks add up. Maybe its not needed, but then most of the modifications on my truck have stemmed from too much drinking and had little to do with need. :D
Besides, with a balanced exhaust system your mufflers end up staggered instead of right next to each other, which makes it easier to keep your pipes tight together and out of the way of everything else.
Halogrinder 02-02-2007, 05:50 PM look in my thread, i made a exhaust with pics in it.
94stepsideford 02-02-2007, 10:09 PM Well after fighting with it for 2 hours today I fianaly got one pipe ran as far as the cab. After about 3 adapters and a piece of flex pipe:laughing: Eveything is too damn close on mine with the external slave and how my tranny crossmember is set up.
So now its all stock to where the forst cat should be, flex pipe (so it will go over the tranny x member) to 2.5" duals dumped behind the cab.
Very ghey side note, one pipe was 2.5" OD and one was 2.25" OD:confused: But they still have the stock connecting pipe with the o2 sensor so it should be pretty equal.
At a later date I will run headders down the the flex pipe. I'm just too poor right now.
Fordman500 02-02-2007, 11:49 PM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v402/monav58/Picture017.jpg mine is run like this. its 2 1/4 - 2 1/2. I COuld probly benefit from bigger exhuast but it makes good torque. I am going to use some dynomax race bullets on it and see what those do.

Dude, just so you know, those are LOUD. Thats what I had on mine....and I would set off car alarms just ideling by, have my radio (with amp) cranked and wasn't able to make out what was playing....it was insane. Way past the legal noise ordinace level, even without the foot into it. If I had a passenger in the passenger seat I would have to yell for them to hear me. When I actually stepped on it it was so loud that if I was in traffic small imports next to me would simply vaporize from the intense sound waves. Okay, maybe that last bit was a (slight) exaggeration but you get the idea. I just replaced them.
So if you want loud, those are the ticket. But they drove me nuts.
Here is a GREAT link where Jay Broader (the transmission wizard) flow compared several mufflers. Some flow better and worse than you'd think...might help with your decision:

94stepsideford 02-03-2007, 11:02 AM well got it 90% done to the back of the cab. Just need to weld the pipes (its supposed to get down to 15 below for the next few days so it'll probably be next weekend) Its pretty loud. My dad heard it fire up 2 miles away:flipoff2: Micht put some flowmaster single chamber race mufflers on it just to quiet it down some.
Loki89t 02-03-2007, 12:05 PM Why does everyone want such loud exhuast? as far as I know my exhuast is stock and it sounds badass :smokin:

My neighbors pissed me off. This thing comming into my drivway at 50 downshifting into 1rst, setting off their BMW's car alarms, should be a good wake up call.:flipoff2: to them.
IMO if its big its gotta be loud. It'd be like a full ehaust on a racecar

I'm all for things being loud, but sometimes there is a point that it's just too much. I hear way to many trucks driving around that sound like shit.

Its not too much. Just right IMO
