: Small Fuel Cells

Of the guys that are running small tanks in thier buggies, how are they working out as far as fuel consumption? I'm thinking of putting a 3.5 gallon tank in my new buggy, and wasn't sure if that would make it through a day without a refill. Do you guys have to fill your tanks half way through an event day? Any other problems with a tank this small? Oh, and its a V-6 so it shouldn't burn a ton of fuel.

I've run on 3ish quite a bit- I like 5 better, if I had 3 I'd likely try to splash mid day- don't want that misfortune. seems like I usually use about 1.5-2.5 per comp day.

So you never had an issue with running a tank that small? I thought I remembered you having a small tank on the front of a buggy.

Jessie, On my old buggy I ran a 1.5 gallon tank. In the middle of the day I would add just a little splash, but that was with 2.5 subby. My new car has the SCV6 and were only going with a 3 gallon.

the skinny car had 5 gallons in 04 then 3.25ish in 05. The new chassis you built was run with 3 gallons for the rest of 05, made a 5 gallon tank for 06. I've never run out of gas at a comp

we run a custom 3ish cell feeding an ecotech with no problems. we put a sight glass in ours so we could easily see where the level is at with just a glance.

I was running a 3 gallon cell last season with my thirsty LS1. Needless to say, I filled mine up after each course.

Well I don't feel so bad now. I guess I'll build a tiny fuel cell then and mount it where I was hoping to.

5 gallon, mild-built 5.0.

Usually could run four courses no problem, refilled before day two. Just to be safe, we usually try to check on how it is after every or at least every other course.

Jesse I would go with a 5 gallon fuel cell. Early in the day it will give you a few more pounds of rear weight, but also more fuel to play around with. If you never want to worry about running out you could go all out and put a 22 gallon fuel cell in your rig. It works for NASCAR. You know you could just run fuel lines in your roll cage and forget about a fuel cell ! :D

Its not really an issue of preference here. I would rather have a 7-8 gallon tank like in my old buggy, but it won't fit where I want to put it.

Jesse my rig has a 4 gallon cell. I fill it each morning before comp. I have never had a low fuel issue. thats running a stock 3400 6 cylinder.

It's a long walk from the quarry to the shop isn't it Jessie??:D

My old 05 buggy had a 4 gallon cell. running a v-6 I had to refill midday during comp. Ran out once, atleast it was driving to the next course. :)

Mine's like 2.5 gals or so--would make it the whole day on the tank, but we'd top it off after 3 courses.

I'm begining to think I had the biggest fuel cell in the country.:D

I run a 5 gal with a 5.0 and it will run a whole day a Paragon/Tellico and occasionally I need to top off on the way back to the trailer. If you rec wheel much the larger tank is worth it. I never use more than 2.5 gal or so a day at the comps.

No, I think I was the one last year with the biggest cell of 16 gallons, and I spent most of the season on my lid, but never ran out of gas though....
