: Best doner axle for XJ???
Monkeyboy 05-16-2002, 10:56 PM I'm thinking I might need to go with D44's on the XJ
I have a line on Stock XJ rear D44 axles and a scout D44 rear.
What would be the best and easiest D44 front to swap into the front.
Easiest meaning not cutting down the axles.
I can deal with welding the brackets and coil mounts on.
I just don't want to deal with cutting down the housing and ordering custom axles.
If I have to I will though.
herzog 05-17-2002, 08:50 AM 1980 and up Wagoneer or Ford EB's are probably your best bet.
I've got an 82 waggy front in mine.
Keith Strong 05-17-2002, 09:00 AM I dunno much about coils....but would Bronco fronts be too hard to put under it?

I think it would be quite easy...
I think the coil pads are already in the right place too. So unless you wanted to run the radius arms that came from the bronco, the only other work would be to weld on the CA mounts and the trackbar mounts.

What are you running in the rear to match up with the front axle?
Don't those late model Waggy fronts have a disconnect on them?
Rubicrawler 05-17-2002, 09:36 AM Todd- Josh is getting a D60 for Amanda's junk. She'll have a welded D44 available before too long :)

Todd- come over to the hacienda and check out my EB. We can do a side by side comparison to see if the measurements will match up.
Monkeyboy 05-17-2002, 09:40 AM I'll stop by tonight after work.
I can't stay long. I have lots of work to do on the heeps before this weekend.
Whats for dinner:flipoff2:

I'm running a J4000 D44, cut down to about 62" in the rear.
And no, my front doesn't have a disconnect, it was a full-time 4x4 setup (slugs), some of them do have the vac-disco so keep an eye out for that.

Looks great! Is that an RE Long Arm set up?

I dropped a whopping $300 for it, I know I could have made the brackets, but it sure was a time saver. You can buy the peices individually I believe, if that is what you need.
Monkeyboy 05-17-2002, 09:51 AM $300.00:eek: Thats alot of beer.
I might buy the upper control arm links then try to make my own lower control arm and trac bar brackets.
Oh wait a minute I remember Nailhead having some brackets sitting around after he carefully cut them off incase he decided to reuse them :D
Thats perfect. I'll buy the UCA maounts and snag the rest from him :D

about 1/4 RE, 3/4 made from scratch. I just copied their design and ended up with a $1,500+ kit for the cost of about $80 in materials. :D
The upper CA's are RE, and the J-Joint (frameside) and bushing race (axle side) were cut from RE control arms.
The new crossmember is basically 4x2 rect tubing, 3x3 angle iron pinched to the frame with grade 8 bolts.

No kidding, I didn't drink for 2 weeks!
But like I said, it saved me a lot of time... I was really close to just making them.
Sounds like your set! Have fun!
