I have got my hands on a Series 2 Disco front Driveshaft for my
Rangie.

Has anyone fitted one of these shafts to a Rangie 4 speed Manual's Transfere case?

Would the drive flange front a Disco fit the Early Tranfere case or will I need to mill up an adaptor?

i don't think the LT230 drive flange has the same size splines as the LT95 4 speeder box, so i don't think that the disco flange will fit.
however, the SAS desert patrol 110's (the early ones) used the V8 with LT95 box, along with salisbury front axles and double CV shafts, as did the series3 109" V8 use a double CV front shaft, and these also had the LT95 box, so you just need a front flange off of one of those.

and its number is: FRC2256

Hopefully the holes are in the right place, but the diameter of the flange will be OK even if it needs re-drilling a little. on my 90 i've a mixture of equippe4x4 flanges, disco S2 and series 3 V8 shafts, and all the holes line up OK.

No it'll never fit. Not in a million years. You'll have to sell it. Cheap. To me! :flipoff2:

Seriously, if you can't get it to fit (and it does sound like it is _possible_ ) then I'd buy it!

It is my understanding that the 4 bolt rectangular patern is the same through out all Land Rover production, and that either the older larger type ujoint flanges, or the new smaller type will bolt up. An example of this is using Series 3rd members in a Defender while keeping the stock defender drivelines. I know you are looking a the tcase side of things, but the 4 bolt rectangular patern is the same on both ende of the driveline as well.

Today I located a Series 3 Landie Front drive flange.

It bolts straight upto my Lt 95 transferecase
but requires redrilling and a little bit of machine work to let the Disco Series 2 Driveshaft boltup.

I have been offered a driveshaft from a HSE 4.6 Rangie which I am told is the same. Can anyone confirm if they are - and if the adapter from the HSE will fit the LT230 (on a 1988 V8 90 with LT85 if it matters!)

Thanks

Apparently the Disco II front driveshafts are flogging out quite frequently - a mechanic here is doing frequent replacements on vehicles that are only 2 years old. They are not sure if it is a design flaw in the shaft or the fact the airconditioning drip pipe is directly above one of the UJs. Dow.
So, I think I might use a custom driveshaft instead...
Are the Series III Disco shafts any different from the Series II?
Also I can confirm that the HSE driveshaft is NOT the same...

i wouldn't say they blow up on d-90s kc has run one for about 2 yrs and I've had mine on for a year guess maybe if KCs blows up in the next few months I'll believe that but until it happens I call bullshit
