: '43 MB daily driver?
sceep 05-17-2002, 06:48 AM So.... I'm thinking of resurecting(sp) the MB for a daily driver.
Heres the scoop. '43, all original, pretty rusty here and there but not beond fixing.
I have a couple of spare ford 2.8 v-6s in the garage, and a spare d-20 t- case.
I'd like to get it on some 32's-33's
I know that we have broke the shafts in the rear on multiple occasions so i need to upgrade the axles. (may have a set of XJ axles soon)
What do you think?
What would you do?
I drive 100 miles a day so i have to keep if reliable and a V-8 swap is out of the quiestion.
NM laws are.... well shit.. there arent any laws here so basically anything goes.
Oh yeah.... cost IS a factor. But we have a bad reputaion of being able to find anyhting we need cheap as hell.
You are nuts:rasta:
Good:smokin: ?
:D
I think it would suck to DD it, but I quit DD CJ's after my 3rd one. All jeeps pretty much suck to drive on the road. Build it for the trail, and enjoy the occasional cruise around town on Sunday:D

nuts? why? I think if i swap in the XJ axles w/ a v-6 and 5speed or auto, nice squishy XJ springs, it could be a pretty damn nice dd. gotta figure out a heater for the winters though.. hmm....
SVARAS 05-17-2002, 07:08 AM If you are talking serious, I would say:
1) Disc conversion kit for the front end
2) Satur Overdrive, or 3.73 gears
3) Bestop cover
4) a nice couple of seats
5) a good product to isulate the floor and the firewal ( noise and temp)
Anyway, thinking in the budjet you are waist in this 5 minimun topics, I believe you can buy a cheap car !

Thats not the problem..i have a car... hell, i have 8 cars. I'm thinking of selling my porsche to fund this. My cj is fixin to get torn apart to build the XJ and the porsche just isnt... "me".

Well, if you are gonna do this righ away, get's more sence. If you want to keep the stock components, I think you must do what i told you in my first reply
Did I mention you, that a 54 CJ3B was my DD when I was at College?
good luck

I said nothing about keeping any stock components other than i want to save the body. And hopefully keep from building a new frame.

Thats just my opinion.:D
I just don't think SWB jeeps make good commuters.
WheelingPiazza 05-17-2002, 07:30 AM I say do it, but do it all if you are.
PS steering, Axles, Tranny, Tcase, motor, springs, etc
I wouldnt use XJ axles unless your talking a 44 rear, then I would do a 44 front too..

You now what :flipoff2: :) :) :)
I was trying to give you some ideas because I passed through the same situation.
It's way more easy to say that your idea doesn't make sense, and tell you to buy a car, but I though you were looking for other kind of advise
Do whatever you want, I do not care

arndog 05-18-2002, 11:43 AM I drove my 2A everday for a year. It wasn't to bad. stock everything. I ended up putting the overdrive in which was key but I really hated how loud it was. the gears in those things are just loud. Id go toyota drivetrain and call it good. The heat wasn't to bad because the motor actually kept it pretty warm in there with a new besttop. The no defrost option sucks.
In my opinion anything about a willys is fare game as far as this board goes. Now if it gets to the signature thing and will pulling my carpet out make my jeep run weird questions then its out of here.

utahjeepr 05-18-2002, 06:10 PM I say go for it.
My daily driver is a Cummins powered M-715 with 42" tall (11R22.5) tires. I miss the creature comforts of my Dodge pickup sometimes, but scaring some old lady into changing lanes to get away from me more than makes up for it.
LordRatner 05-18-2002, 07:08 PM is it in original condition? got any pics?
edit: pics from utah jeeper, sorry
utahjeepr 05-18-2002, 07:41 PM The wife put these on ofoto to send to her dad.

The cat snuck up on me while I was sleeping, QUIT LAUGHING!!!
:flipoff2: I mean it, it's not that damn funny, QUIT LAUGHING!!!:flipoff2:
Magoo 05-22-2002, 07:02 PM Utah- I thought my '78 F150 w/o its grille on 35x15's was fun to drive to work/school! Gotta love that!
As for a DD Willys, more power to ya! I am going to swap out my 5.38 for 4.88 so I can drive it somewhere other that in the hills. I actually thought about doin' a DD, but a 6'2" NAH!
As for the noise, cold, and lack of creature features, what gives? Ever ride a Harley!?!
