Was wandering if anyone has any swap pics of their d60 front? What was involved and did you outboard the front springs? Will scout springs work or should they be replaced with chevy? Any info or pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Chevy or Dodge will bolt right in as far as width is concerned...However the spring width is different and I remember seeing pics of how they fixed this but I don't remember exactly how...

by bolting right in i assume you only have to move the drivers side spring perch? Or do you mean it lines up perfectly? Springs are not and issue but simple is better.

I believe that Chevy and Dodge both use ~31" (maybe 31.5") spring perch width...I thought that the Scout II's were near the same...remember, it can be a little off, the springs will take up some of the difference.

The Dodge or Chebby d60 spring perch is 1/16 wider center to center. So you need to pull in each spring 1/32 on each side. They take a 2.5" spring so go with a RS44044

GM Front d60 goes right in (on my SII). Yes the springs are narrow on the mounts, but it hasn’t caused any problems. The DL is kinda steep but it doesn’t bind with a little yolk clearance-ing:D .

What was involed
#1 flip center pins for SOA
#2 put the 60 in

It was that easy:smokin: . I used 2-degree shims to relive some pinion and DL angle.

Side note with relatively flat springs there is plenty of room for high steer.

I got some pics if you want me to email them to you. Let me know? Maybe you can post them in this thread

The swap was so easy I am doing it again on another scout.

on The GM 14B rear. Perches need to be moved in about ¾ an inch on each side.

It might be to ones advantage to keep the stock Scout springs. Because they are thinner it gives you more freedom to drill new pinholes and adjust wheel base by about an inch. I re-drilled mine 1 inch toward the back. In turn pushing the axle forward and out of the firewall by that same 1 inch…… :D

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!! Yeah, you'd better grind the stock spring hangers off and move them in that 1/32" on each side, because there's NO WAY in hell the bushings and shackles have anywhere near enough play to accomodate thirty thousands of an inch of mis-alignment! :flipoff2: :D :shaking:  :flipoff2:

RS44044's are good tho.... :)

Oh, as long as I'm talking to you Bob, where are you getting your 37's that you're moving up to (since you sold the 35's)? Does anybody have a reasonable price around here for 37x12.50 for a 16.5 wheel? I've got these old mags....

They're Rancho Waggy lift springs. Not sure of the offset or lift off hand. Long and flexy, great for spring overs.

I bought them used. I bought this set of 37x12.5x17 BFG mud KM's with the 17x10 Trailready beadlocks for 1200.00. The tires only have two Calrocs comps on them, Victorville and Reno .

how much choppity chop has to be done to the fenders to fit 40's? I know the rear tubs have to be done but anyone have pics of fender trim jobs?

Corn,

Need some details on the your sliders. Can you fire over some close ups, looks like 2" Sq tube, 3/16 or 1/4 wall?

I sent you a pic:D

They are a mix of 1.5 and 1.75 square stock. 3/16

The outrigger supports at each end are 1.75 by 4, And double as body mounts

IIRC

You mean like the step by steps I posted? :D

Those are 36x12.50 TSLs on 15x8.5s with just a 4" front lift, shot body mounts.

I took 2.5-3" out of the front fenders. I need to trim back just a bit more near the rocker - some of the rocker needs to go, too.

So would that mean you're John T. that I bought the Scout from... on 4/12/1997? :flipoff2: :D

No more rust.

That was one of the benefits.. pretty much cut out all of the cancer in the front fenders. :D

when you gonna "upgrade" the rear fenders?

Probably after the summer race season is over.. race season starts this Saturday in Wyoming, so the tow-rig and the race rig are the priorities.. wheelin' takes a back seat. :D

Just too much work to do the rears the way I want to.. since first I need to repair the front body mounts, then replace pretty much the back half of the tub..

hmmm, i wonder if I have enough room to trim back the fenders for 38's or 40's without cutting into the inner fenders?????
Oh yeah, 7" SOA.

My goal is to make the 36s fit all around with no more lift.

Then I'll add just a bit more lift and get the new suspension set up, and find some bigger tires. :D

With a full width rear they'd probably fit easier with less tubbing in the back, but some mods to the inner walls will probably still be necessary.. darn double-wall fenders and wheel wells..

If I can fit the tires with the suspension I have now, I can build the new suspension to WORK, not to clear tires. :D
