vertical or horizontal? Its angle weld that beatch up wherever you can. The fab gurus might say something about welding directly to the frame but you gotta do what you gotta do. Dont make the clearance too tight to the body because the body will flex on the frame and you will get rubbage.

That has got to be one of the dumber questions asked this week. Just weld it. On second thought, take it to someone that doesn't have to ask that question and have him weld it. :flipoff2:

Ricky

you might explain what your idea is a little more completly
Don't spend to much time thinking it through... which ever way you consider running the beads buy some scrap steel and practice it in that manner and do a destructive test to double check your weld before it counts.
Don't let these guys get to ya...they by and large are harmless except for that glo guy ..he is really a bitch on birfields and pinions, but he does make a nice looking front clip (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=45237&highlight=bender)

waaaay! Jus' grow some thick skin ya' whinin' newbie . Try and get a good ,clean surface up on that frame and weld away . Doesn't matter what type of weld , no mention of anything else hanging on that skidplate . So just cruise around and do a search and you'll prolly' find info your looking for . Try not to take it all so seriously , everyone was a newbie in the beginning . Good luck :flipoff2:

Just turn it up side down so that you can do a flat weld. It is easier to do and you won't get any sparks or slag on your clean shirt and you can keep the back side of your mullet out ot the dirt. :D

I heard elmers glue is pretty sticky, you need to hold the 2 pieces together for about 8hours for it to bond though..:flipoff2:

I'll breal the mold....

Supposedly angles on the sides are best and welding across the bottom the worst, but I dont thint it really matters much as long as the things hanging from your frame from the factory are welded also.

WTF....its cool folkin around and $hit but damn. give it a rest. EVERYONE is a comedian these days cause their rig is done and what else is there to do other than harrassing people that aren't. folk those guys that cant give any advice. thats what this board is about i thought....you know SHARING information through experience!!!!:mad3: :nuke: :flipoff2: .............due to the structural integrity of the frame the best way to weld anything to it would be horizontal cause thats the way the grain of the metal in the frame goes. so the STRONGEST way is to do it horizontally....with a welder that is, if you have one!!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

When you x-ray a frame you can see the junk (tech term) running the length of it. That's the way you'd want to weld. Welding vertical is tricky business at best, but you'd create a weak point and be begging it to break.

Thanx guy's for sharing your experience,

Krcruiser, rokkroler and other you now what is sharing information.
The ideal here was making a way so i could bolts on my tranny skidplate because i am tired of braking the bolts inside the frame so with a 90 degree bent iron chanel it will be easy when changing the bolts or if some else have a better ideal for holding the tranny skid plate.

Ricky

get some grade 17 bolts from mr4wd....

or just drill it out to take a bigger grade 5 or 8 bolt from the hardware store... easier than trying to booger weld something to your frame.

Oxjockey
05-17-2002, 07:21 PM
Just through bolt the damn thing. Get an extended shank 25/32" (or slightly larger) drill and go nuts. Measure your frame and get a bolt an inch longer. It'll be better than welding an angle iron to it.
