I don't think so.
You can swap the sides disassemble the short side and assemble it in the long side, thus changing the side of the pumpkin, but you'll have to do the same with the ends.

reverse cut gears DO NOT make the diff spin in reverse... they just allow a high pinion axle to power on the drive side of the gear...

or just put in a D300 and run the axle as is.

If you have to ask this, you probably shouldn't be building it.
Is it still Tuesday?

Fawk it...It'll work great, but you are gonna need a chrome diff cover.

By flipping the axle, it will run in the opposite direction - as in it will run in reverse when you want to go forward, and vice versa. You cannot run high pinion gears in a standard case.
I'd like to see it though...:D

assuming you have a 6cyl...ditch the 231 and buy a dana300 and a clocking ring...
then you can twin stick it...421 is cheaper...and no annoying crossover pipe for the exhaust...you just have to notch the tub a bit

No, your axle flip idea won't work.

You should be able to pick up a D300 for no more than a short shaft kit for a 231. Novak sells an adapter for around $130. You get a steel transfercase that is gear driven and is way shorter than the 231. Sell the 231 and buy more parts.
Ask me how I know.

Clearly you've been looking for a long time since you've posted this brilliant question! :flipoff2:
