I have four bends I need to make in some .250 wall 1 3/4 DOM, I am using a 5.5 CLR die, will it hold up? I will be using a 10 ton ram. If its not up to par now would it be with some gusseting on the die or arms or both?

I'm curious about this too. I'd like to build a new truss for my front axle and wondered if I could bend .250 with my JD2. Wonder if heating the tube with a torch before/while bending would help.

how much do you need to bend...Iv'e seen 1 1/2 .250 wall bent but it wasn't any more than about 5 degrees.

Zach at AtoZfabrication bent up some 1.5 x .25 wall for my last heep with his JD2. Bent the pin between the ram and bender arm. We were standing as far back as the controller would allow waiting for something to pop. Only did 2 bends, dont think I'd want to try more than that.

Pretty sure Scott@rockstomper was bending something heavy like that when he ripped the stop block off his die. Also heard of bent arms, so would probably file the whole idea in the bad idea catagory, unless you're prepared to replace the bender if something goes wrong.

I bent a couple pins on mine and ovalled out some of the holes in the bottom plate when trying to bend some 1.75" .120 wall with 1.5" .120 slid inside it. Just upgraded to some 5/8 top and bottom plates and some F-911 bolts instead of the pins and it bends no prob now, as long as I have a 6ft cheater bar.

ive bent 1/4 quite a few times, no problems. its a jd-3 from about 5 years ago, don't know if that matters

I bend 1.5x.25" DOM pretty often now with my JD2 and the tightest CLR die they make. A little while ago I was doing that on a newer die from JD2 and the weld-on pin tab snapped right off--that was pretty cool! Apparently, JD2 had some issues with cold welds on that batch--the new die they sent me works fine I think 1.75x.25 may almost be easier because of the larger radius on the die. The first few degrees are the toughest, but I still wear a face shield and cover my most prized possessions located in my pants. ;)

I bent a couple of bends in 1.75x.250 wall DOM, mine is also 6 years old. I also did 1.5x.250 DOM. I don't think I will do it again unless I really needed to. Maybe the older models had a different grade of steel.
