What are the pros and cons of a full width kit? Are they a good choice?

Yes, puting full size axles under it.

What if you put wheels on it with like 5 or 6 inches of backspacing to narrow the stance?

Often the knuckles and/or steering links prohibit much more than stock spacing. Maybe you could have custom made 16" rims for 1/2 ton axles that would clear better.

I was looking at useing a 14 bolt in the rear, and a Dana 60 in the front. Then running hummer beadlocked rims (16.5) with new cut out that would make them around 6 inches of back spacing.

My guess is that he's talking about the Avalanche Engineering full width kit.

Check out PYRO's rig. He's running full width axles with Hummer beadlocks (7" bspacing). Works well to narrow up the stance.

Pros of full width are strength, provided it's 3/4 ton or better, and stability.

Cons are extra width. This will definitely make you take different lines than you did stock, and may or may not affect your trail access depending on how tight the trails you run are.

Yes that is the kit I was looking to use. The way I was lookong at it was, if I had 15X10 rims w/ 3 5/8 bs the I would have a 68 3/4 inch stance. Where as with new then set up (6inch back spacing and a dana 60) my stance would only increase to 73 inches. This is not counting the tires.

I ran my CJ7 with stock width for a long time before switching to full width axles. I run 15x10's and 38.5" TSL/SX's. I don't regret having done the swap! I actually quite prefer it. Stability is a HUGE increase over the stock setup. Yes, it certainly hurts me on tighter trails, which usually only occurs on one obstacle on an entire run. There is ONE trail here called Anaconda that pretty much eats my lunch because of my width.

The flex that I get is uncomparable to the previous setup! It has WAY more articulation over the previous setup, and I didn't change my spring setup when I did the swap. The added flex allows me to put my tire high on an obstacle that maybe I couldn't have squeezed through before.

If you intend to run a lot of tree filled trails, then I wouldn't do it. But here in Arizona, these trails are pretty forgiving for full width setups.

Up here in WA we have some of the tightest trails around. I much prefer my fullwidth axles to my prev. stockers. There are (very) few places where I plain ole' can't go, but if MY axles are too wide for that, then YOUR windshield frame probably ain't gonna make it, so what's the diff.. We'll see what happens on the funny rocks next week, if I'm too wide. Everything else, I spank like a bad bitch. Love the stability.

Thanks for the help I think that I am going to make the swap and run a little extra bs, at least at first. (4 or so inches on an 8 inch wheel).

I'm about to start my swap to full width 1ton axles for my CJ7. I'll be leaving the rear full width w/ Hummer wheels. The front axle will be narrowed ~4" on the driver's side so the axle is symetrical with the passenger spring mount left as is. The hummer wheels won't clear the steering so I'll be using 2" wheel spacers. I'll be mounting 38*12.50s on the hummer wheels. I'll let you know how it works out. For me, using wheel spacers sounds better than moving the wheel backspacing and I'll only need to do that at the front.

The problem with putting hummer wheels on a D60 is your hubs stick out too far...WHACK!!

I went with 62 inch wide 60's, verses full width. If I want to be wider I can be or I can narrow them. Right now with Trailready 15x10 beadlocks my 39.5 boggers stick exactly halfway out past my flares. (stock tj flares on a scrambler)
