Hey guys,

Well i have a bad header gasket on my 350 w/hedman headers, so i need some new ones, i really do not want to have to do this again so what do all of you reconmend? I have GM fast burn aluminum heads and the GM performance catalog calls for a fel-pro #1407

They are a cork gasket

Any suggestions other than putting nice quiet manifolds on. :flipoff2:

Cork header gaskets????????????????

You bought Headman and the thin flanges are a PITA to get to seal. I say invest in a set of copper gaskets.

They all leak! I would go with Scout and get the copper ones, or the Al ones.

They are not cork, but they are a very 'special fiber material'

Quote:

Fel-Pro Performance exhaust header gaskets are made from high temperature, high density fiber material around a perforated steel core for durability and heat resistance. Plus their precoated for easy removal.

yes its somewhat off topic but just discovered something that may be usefull for us header folk. Header Hushers, big flanges that bolt around the header flanges and prevent warping thus prevent leaks at the flanges. Saw them on a truck i'm lifting and they are really cool and thought it'd be helpfull in preventing the leaks that develop after you fix the leak in the header gasket! :)

Thanks guys,

YJTJ, are you reasy for next friday? i ran the trail yesterday and you will definatley have some issues being full width, but i am sure you can deal with that. we just need to find a trail you will fit down. we come off the trail and head back down to the creek but it weaves in and out of trees my rig is about the max that will fit through the current trail, but we saw another trail that you should be able to go down. BTW, does a 20 foot waterfall get you worried, i am, it have a 4 foot ledge we need to climb first then 4 more steps to get to the top. and this is the second part of the trail. you will have fun, then you can change your location, because this trail is good enough to make this area a sweet wheeling place.

I always put a bead of copper RTV around each of the ports, seems to work good.

talked to a buddy that drag races. he runs a small block chevy and told me he uses the regular metal manifold gaskets for the stock manifold with headers.

extreme cj i talked to matt today. we will see if i am ready as it never stops raining. the jeep is not insured or registered so it may be hard to get it there, it doesnt fit on a regular trailer and i think its illegal to flat tow unreg and uninsured. i still have no guages either but i can throw some cheapies in. we will see if the weather cooperates, it hasnt so far.
