I haven't yanked mine apart yet but I doubt there is a good seal behind the gear on the motor shaft. In other words what would keep the gear oil from leaking back into the motor and thrashing it? I would call warn first and see what they use for a seal and ask if it would hold.

They are an oil bath set up. I would make sure the seal for the motor and brake will handle being under oil all the time. Also you might want to add something to make the oil a little stickier to make sure it gets back up where it belongs, ie lucas, stp, ect.

Just keep the buggy upright all the time and you wont need to fit the winch upside down....LOL

Really not sure that the oilbath it sits in will cause leaks that way...

When you call WARN, ask about all of their winches for the rest of us. :D

Let us know. Very interesting question.....

My gut reaction is NO. An oil bath winch is gonna leak like you wouldn't believe since it is not designed to seal up top that well where the motor attaches to the gear reduction case.

Simple to test - take your 8274 and turn it upside down in your shop for a week and see what happens :p

There is no seal to hold the oil out of the motor if you invert it.

so NO

But lets say you packed everything in grease it might work if you did not mind tearing it down all the time to redo it.
