This is for my XJ, I got a set of RE 4.5" leaf springs used but in good shape. I think they are the older versions because they have a thicker load leaf on them like this...

I get more than 4.5" of lift out of them but dam do they ride rough and I haven't had a chance to try and flex them but I'm guessing it's not going to do that well. I was wondering if I could remove that thick bottom leaf or would it just be an invitation to sagging?

Unless you carry a heavy load a lot, it shouldn't be a problem.
However, it probably will not change the lift.

Removed one and got a closer look at it, that sucker is 1/2" thick leaf and just by pushing on the bumper it feels like it has more give. I know one of the binding points is the stock shackle but I'm going to build a different one that actually fits and best of all moves...

Just remove it and be done with it. It _may_ allow the spring to sag faster then it would with the overload leaf in... but as another poster stated, unless you carry heavy loads a lot it shouldn't be a big deal.

Besides, you can keep the leaf and reinstall it at a later time if you need too...

Yup they're out, does a bit better but have to build some new shackles for sure, those stockers SUCK.

Yeah they are some older ones, at least 3 if not 4 years old.
