I'm preparing to install a much needed/long awaited roll cage in my fullsize '88 Ford Bronco. I'm not interested in doing an exo-cage, but am thinking about X-ing under the roof with two braces coming down beside each side of the dash, some tube at the back side of the cab bracing the floor, a roll bar type piece at the back of the cab and X-ing the area behind the cab. I will probably remove the rear seat and there is no top. I'm just looking for something simple at this point that will get the job done in case of a roll over. My main question is though, I was thinking 1 5/8" tube at .125" wall thickness. Will this be enough for a fullsize cab truck? Or do I need to go bigger? Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

I know of a place here in CA. That has a roll cage for you. They have them in 1-3/4x.134 or 1-5/8x.134 and meet NHRA requirements. They use acomputer-controlled 3-axis mandrel bender to form there cages not a manually gauged machine.Like most shops. They are fairly ez to fit have one in my 85 toy. The one I have is a 8 point roll cage it cost $206.00:smokin: or you can go with a14-point roll cage for $284.00. They are called CHRIS ALSTON'S Chassisworks phone (888)388-0201 toll free or there site at www.cachassisworks.com You get a good product for littel cost. :flipoff2:I think it would hold up very well in your full size do to it being thicker.

1 5/8 should be fine for DOM thats what is used on 6 second dragsters, for HREW Im not sure. You might add a dash bar and a bar across the windshield, and I am not sure the x on top of the cab is necessary.

i always go 1 3/4 DOM for all exterior tubes, the ones that are in compression or tension, usually the inside crossed ones can be 1 1/2 or even 1.25. when you conbine the cage structure with the cab, you can get away with less, but its a guess in terms of your style or conditons that will factor in. floping on your side is one thing - going end for end down a 1000 ft grade is something else. also, looking at other sanctioning bodies tech is good food for thought. SCCA, NASA, IHRA, etc.
