97 Dodge Ram 1500 broke through what I think is a seal on the power steering pump and seems like the PO was running ATF instead of powering steering fluid. I looks like it blew out the bottom seal near the pitman arm. On a scale whats the difficulty level on rebuilding the pump?

And P.S. where can I find a shackle flip for this truck aswell?

Power steering pumps are nowhere near the pitman arm.:flipoff2:

Yeah I realized that after I posted it. I meant the steering gearbox. Figured the mistake could take some of the heat (from the usual pirate flames) from the newb question so I could get some answers.

So how about rebuildin the steering gearbox? :flipoff2:

I did mine, seal kit is cheap. search for howtos, Jeeps use the same style box so howtos are everywhere.

Mine still leaks though - it's tighter and leaks a lot less but it didn't come out perfect. hopefully when I get the ram in to do hydro assist (I tapped the box when I rebuilt it) it'll take enough load off te stop the leak.

Good luck.

yes if you have any kind of mechanical ability you should be fine with some howtos. get a haines or chilton type manual, a lot of times they will show that kinda stuff.

and if it was a pump there cheap as hell usually from the parts store like auto zone or like store. plus a lot of reman companys usually offer lifetime warrantys, just go get one.
