Wondering if any of you running full hydro with a 60 could post up some pix of your setup. I am putting it in an early bronco. Who did you get your kit from and or what did you use to make your own.
Thanks in advance!

I hope dedenbear changes the mold to the newer knuckle style next time.
the old ones have the tierod way too low

It's a 3/4" grade 8 bolt wrapped in DOM....I could run it full speed into a brick wall and have a hard time breaking it!:flipoff2:

Dude, That will never hold! Your all gonna die when that takes a shit goin down the high way at 190mph!:shaking: You would be far better off in single shear with low steer! There's a sucker born every minute, then the graduate to PBE.

Not ideal but functional,:p

Does the DOM tubing extend into the upper and lower steering arm eyes? If it doesn't, then the shear is still on the bolts. Grade 8 have great tensile but a brittle shear due to their hardness. They will withstand a higher level force, but when exceeded they will seperate sharply as opposed to a grade 5 which will only yeild and let you know you have a problem in a nice way. Even if the tubing is in the arms, there's not enough surrounding support at that distance to stop it from flexing. I would test it good before you hit the trail and take along some spares anyway. Have you considered closing that gap up a little with something substantial, and then maybe use something like a kingpin fro a 70's Ford twin I-beam designed for shear resistance?

I have ran the Hammers and other local trails with it and had no problems. If it breaks I will reconsider the design...until then I'll wheel the piss out of it:D

Well, if its working for you, then go, man, go. Your kingpins should last a lot longer splitting the load like that, dont you think.

It's workin so far. I appreciate the info in your first post. When I changed from the ford knuckles to the dedenbear's I either had to change my whole ram mount or figure something else out. Nobody builds a highsteer arm that lines up with the lower mount on the knuckle, so the arm had to be cut and realigned to match up. I am getting a brand new set of 40" Creepy Crawlers next week...that should put it to the test:smokin:

Since your throwing it out there why don't you endulge us with your expertise. I would like to know what the shear and tensil strength's are of this bolt. And not something you just pull up online. I would like to know what it is at the heim joint. I would also like to know how many ft lbs my hydro ram is capable of compared to what the bolt is able to withstand.

Patiently waiting in suspense.

Does the DOM tubing extend into the upper and lower steering arm eyes? If it doesn't, then the shear is still on the bolts. The shear forces will never leave the through bolt?? No matter what you do.Grade 8 have great tensile but a brittle shear due to their hardness. They will withstand a higher level force, but when exceeded they will seperate sharply as opposed to a grade 5 which will only yeild and let you know you have a problem in a nice way. This is true to a regurgitative point. But the softer material of a gr5 bolt would allow more stretching/deflection which would loosen the clpamping forces on the tubing, making it useless. Even if the tubing is in the arms, there's not enough surrounding support at that distance to stop it from flexing.Well there will not be a whole lot of deflection in a 8" span on a 3/4" bolt, especially when there is tubing acting somewhat structural due to the clamping force on each end. Either way the deflection is controlled because the stand off is esentially 1" thick and only 4" long or less per leg. I would test it good before you hit the trail and take along some spares anyway. Have you considered closing that gap up a little with something substantial, and then maybe use something like a kingpin fro a 70's Ford twin I-beam designed for shear resistance?

As I said its not ideal but it is functional and is now, tested/proven.

Have a great day,
Easy Rick.

I have been running mine like that for over 2 years now and I think Scott has been running his like that even longer. I saw Scott strip the threads out of his steel tie rod back in June on Skullcrusher, kinda blows the theory that the bolt is the weak link.

I guess looks can be deceiving. It does look like you are asking a lot from that bolt. Somehow I got the impression this was yet to be proven. My bad. I wasn't suggesting that the grade 5 would be better, only that just being grade 8 didn't make it bulletproof being used directly for its shear qualities. I did state it was still stronger. I don't know why I put that in there for grade 5. Nobody would want bent bolts either. I guess I was just making a comparison.

I also know of a comp buggy running that same setup now for a few years.
I personally would not do it, but it seems to work just fine for others.

I mean you already have the fucking high steer arms. Why not just go ahead and make a mount that puts all that stuff out of harms way. Thats one of the stupidest things i've ever seen.

This is worse than any half ass weld I've seen on this site. You don't have to be an engineer weld to at your house.
