difference between auto split case and manual [Archive]

Anyone know what the difference between an Automatic FJ62 split case is and a Manual trannied split case? The autos have lower gears 2.488:1 and since it looks like I’m going to be buying a whole case to get the gears, I figured I may as well find the best gears I could get. I’m installing it behind my h55f. Are there any differences in the external cases? Anyone know for sure.

As long as I’m asking stupid questions, does anyone know if the US spec’d 80 series transfer cases will bolt up to a h55f. I’ve considered switching to 80 series axles for a long time. Maybe a AWD 60 series would be cool? Hah! More leaky front seals. More moving parts. More stuff for the Eric the Idiot to break.
